Thank you for the video! I think this is very important for the band. This footage needs to be on their sute, myspace, youtube, everywhere. People need to hear the "new" Journey...not just Journey w/JSS singing the hits. I hope they continue with new material in the future shows....they HAVE to stand behind it. They never really did with Steve. Joureny cannot make the same mistake again...

NEW JOURNEY SONG.....MY WORLD STOPS FOR A SECOND

I think it has a Evolution/Departure sound to it, although with the Cain keys

I'm pretty excited, it sounded great!

I hope they pro-shot that song and upload it to the journeymusic.com MEDIA page! That page on their site is in dire need of an update/upgrade, as we all know...

So, do a few of the opening lyrics say something like "400 yrs ago"?
Was this song written specifically for Jamestown, or was that reference just a piece of the big picture?

Lots of TBF here...very Perry-ish throughout.
Interesting.

OMG. I got goosebumps listening to this. It was kind of rough, but once it got in about 40 or 50 seconds, you could really start feeling the vibe. Tremendous. Thanks for this sneak peak at a new era of Journey.

This should have been done for the fans before the show. Familiarity and a sing-along would have been a plus for it's introduction to the public.

I had to listen to the song again today during lunch time! :)

Yep, I could even hear a couple of sour notes from the solo, but otherwise, it was great. I definitely hear a TBF vibe on this one...."When You Love A Woman" comes to mind. I am really digging the vocals from Jeff Scott Soto. There is definitely just enough reference to Steve Perry in his voice to let you know this is Journey, yet he is definitely not a clone! :) It kind of reminds me of John Elefante when he replaced Steve Walsh in Kansas. Someone who could cover the old material, yet be completely different enough to make the new stuff sound completely awesome!

It's got me thinking though. I wonder exactly what direction Journey is going to be taking on this new album. This song makes me think it's going to be in the vein of TBF, but hopefully with a few more rockers and few less ballads. I think it's important for Journey to take a modernistic approach to the new album, without going completely away from their sound or to sound too dated. I have to choose my words very carefully with that, because Journey's hits are timeless and never sound dated to me, but we all know how the general public is. Luckily, it seems like the "rock" part of music today is away from the grunge or alternative sound, and is starting to sound a little more melodic. So with that said, I think Journey really has a shot at being extremely successful in this upcoming venture.

Jeff man...you absolutely rock, dude!

Where oh where is the boot of this song? Four days on and still no quality recording?

Maybe I'm just impatient...but there's a a surprising mood of apathy on this board about hearing this new song properly. And this thread seems to have died a death too... All very weird. :?

Thanks LL!

It sounds to me like a better than average post-80s Journey track...but very much in the same style as TBF, Arrival and Generations. It doesn't seem that Journey will be changing direction at all, does it? Maybe just doing the tried and tested thing a little better than they have done in recent years....

Yes. Matt is weird but as a member and president of the MR.com Weirdo Annex I have to say that regardless if it's ever recorded for a new album - it jut comes across as the same ol' same ol'.

It seems unlikely to me that they'd play this song live and then leave it off the album. If Journey are sitting on a stack of unbelievably exciting new songs why didn't they play one of those? No, I reckon they WERE excited about Winds of Freedom and that this is exactly what we can expect from the new record.

And yes Fyre - you are the Founder Member and the President! :)

Winds Of Freedon was really nothing more than a great chance to take a piss/grab a beer without missing a good song. I'm GUESSING it was written rather quickly as it didn't seem to be too musically elaborate. Not to mention that Neal would NOT miss more than 1 note on a new song he was "into." It had Friga's gayness written all over it.

I was under the impression that this song was expressly written for the America's cup 400th anniversary polo celebration. This was on the Polo cup website for Months as the halftime entertainment. I like how Jeff sings the song, I think the chorus is great and it was appropriate for this event and/or other patriotic events. I would be very surprised if this is on an album!

Well, that "gayness" took Journey into superstardom and helped to define the sound the band are still flogging around to this day. I'd show some gratitude for the gayness, St John.
