If that's the case then they need to pack it up and go home.
If I'm the band I don't care what the circumstances are. As an artist your signature is written on what you write and perform. Your art is you and you are your art. If JOURNEY has gotten to the point where they're contriving instead of writing then they've lost their artistry and should bow out gracefully.
No reason to pack anything up. And lucky for us- you aren't the band.
Lula, I agree. Much too early to pass ANY judgment, especially considering the song was event specific. If anything needs to get "packed up" it's the irrational idea that Journey would consider doing a "Latin Rhythm" album.
Why is it too early to pass ANY judgement? It's a new line-up performing a new song....
Sure, Winds of Freedom might have been a hack job for some corporate ponce at a polo event...written in five minutes by a band that didn't give a shit....and I can see that this view helps everyone maintain their high expectations for the album...but I agree with Fyre that it would be depressing if this really was Journey's attitude.
Anyway...I think the song is okay myself and my hunch is that the band did write this with some conviction and are actually quite pleased with it.
Maybe JSS could set us straight on this?
