You're weird bro.

The song sucks. You won't hear it on a new CD. It's a Jon Cain (God fucking hbelp us) song.

Winds Of Freedon was really nothing more than a great chance to take a piss/grab a beer without missing a good song. I'm GUESSING it was written rather quickly as it didn't seem to be too musically elaborate. Not to mention that Neal would NOT miss more than 1 note on a new song he was "into." It had Friga's gayness written all over it.

Well, that "gayness" took Journey into superstardom and helped to define the sound the band are still flogging around to this day. I'd show some gratitude for the gayness, St John.

Bullshit. I'm really fuckin' tired of people giving Cain way more credit than he deserves. The guy was PART of a songwriting team, played/plays mediocre keyboards and adds nothing as far as background vocals go. Perry delivered the songs in an emotive style that will never be matched. Moreover, it was the Perry/Schon combination, the way their styles complimented each other, and the right musical climate that enabled Journey to achieve superstardom. Let me ask you this, fuck-stick....what happened when the Perry-Schon relationship soured? Answer: Creativity was stymied and the band's sales began to spiral downward. And no matter how hard Friga tried (in a fuckin' hairdresser's smock, with a perm and a keytar), he couldn't resuscitate Journey. I thank Perry and Schon for the heights Journey reached. The others were just a great supporting cast. Each important, but far less than the soul (Perry) and the sound (Schon). I hope The Whale falls off the tour bus.

Except for the "fuck-stick," that is a spot on account, imo also.

I'm saying the same thing here for the same reasons.

Because the new song was performed in front of a bunch of freaks wearing big hats and pink pants. Tapegate was a bit more serious, I think you'll agree.

This is simple. People didn't like SA lipping because it destroyed the credibility of their beloved band. Lipping is schlock is it not?

I'm saying that schlock writing is the same thing.

You and others here want to EXCUSE the writing. Nobody wanted to hear excuses for SA's lipping now did they? No excuse for it, right? No way should we cut slack for it.

Well, I'm saying that AS AN ARTIST your art is you and you are your art. There's just NO EXCUSE for contriving over writing.

I'm not excusing anything here. I don't think the song is album material- period. The song suited the purpose. The lipping issue is completely different in my eyes. A song written for an event does not equal fraud.

Then you don't understand the point of ARTISTRY and being TRUE to your art that I'm trying to convey here.

Lipping and schlock writing is the same thing - they're both disgraceful and inexcuseable. I don't know how more clearly I can put it.

The lyrics were unintelligible because of the bad recording,so personally I wasn't influenced by the lyrical message at all.I listened to the song and as I said before,it would take a good recording of it to make me fully appreciate the song. However,it sure needs some more polishing.

If indeed the lyrics are strictly about the Virginia event, that'sthe reason why it would be wrong to put it on the new album.

Maybe they can redo it and change the lyrics. It's their song, they can do whatever they want to with it.
But if they will have enough of the actual album material they are thinking of and working on,they can leave WOF out.

As a side note - I don't believe Cain is not deserving full credit for Journey's success. That would deny the value of many of the classic huge Journey hits.
While Perry and Schon were the *salt* & *pepper*,I'd say Cain was the *sugar* .

Oh,and SJ,leave the Whale alone. Some things are simply sacred! The Scarab,The Whale and The Purple Shirt...Can't mess with these.

You know what's funny, that event was so random, that "IF" Perry came in a Monster truck it would have fit right in with the hand gliding, helicopter nose dive demo's and the Mock police car chases.....

Sorry, you guessed wrong. The song was written 3 weeks ago. They weren't booked to play this 3 years ago either.

They advertised this in at least December 2006 if not prior that Journey would be playing there, Specifically said something like - This was three years in the making and would play the new song written specifically for this event - I am sure you can see how I may "guess" that Deano :)

"You won't hear anything here or anywhere for that matter, before May 12, but yes we are debuting a new song called Winds Of Freedom, a song written especially for & about Virginia. Jon & Neal knocked the core of it out while I was overseas, I will add & finish it up with some ideas as well & the song will debut that evening of the show."

Imagine the bitching that would take place if they included this song on a new CD. I can hear it now "why would they put that out", "don't they have a song that is not about a specific place or event", "they are a mature group of musicians, they can do better than that with song choices".

As SJ said "Much too early to pass ANY judgment".

I'm glad I was there to hear it live. :D

Well, I don't know about anyone else but there's no bitching about Winds of Freedom from me. I'm one of the few people who actually quite likes the damn song. All I'm saying is that it seems to me to be a reflection of where the band are currently 'at' creatively. In exactly the same place as before.

Jeff just finisnished the song up a few days ago according to him in a post here....I don't think they took the time 3 years ago to write a song for this event....I guess we'll see when the credits come up. My money is Schon,Cain, Soto and Not Shon, Cain and Augeri.

I think that they were well on their way before Cain, Matt. All it took was the Perry and Schon combo, imo. I know that Journey went on to be huge but I really think that they would have been bigger with top charting with Gregg. Never know though.
