Question for all the GuitarHeads out there...

What is the tone used by Neal in "Still She Cries"?

It's beautiful and compliments the song perfectly. 8)

I would say he either used an Acoustic with some chorus/delay/verb
and 'doubled up' with a Strat, neck PU, minimal gain/a bit of compression...

OR

A PRS or Les Paul (whatever he was using back in '96) with a Peizo,
dual outputs to seperate amps/rigs/direct with the same effects...

Make any sense? :)

Tone is just a generic term for a guitarist's overall sound. There are many different things that go into it, i.e., guitar, strings, effects, amps, etc. But the most important factor are the guitarists fingers. Two different guitarists could use all the same gear, play the same thing, but sound nearly completely different. Neal's overall tone is identifiable, in my opinion.

Good call on either guess...

There's most definitely either an acoustic or peizo sound thats doubled with a neck pickup of some sort. Both tones seem to be running through the same time-based effect. There's definitely some compression in there...During this period, neal used alot of squash on his clean tones...a good example of this is on intro to livin to do off arrival. It's an acoustic, but it's running through a fair amount of compression...
