That was really nice! :)

I looked at who uploaded that I believe it's the same guy ,DJ Hitmaker (he's from Chicago,I think),who made a dance version of DSB when the White Sox won.I have that tehno version of DSB somewhere,I'll look it up and upload it.

I have to say that this acoustic version is much better,at least in my ears.I hate those a million-bits-per-minute versions of classic songs.

Absolutely wonderful. Any idea where/when this was recorded? I love Deen's singing - I am amazed every time I hear him sing something different.

I gotta lean towards agreeing with Dean on this. Even though I think it's cool hearing an acoustic version of DSB, I don't think the vocals on this were that good.

People who know me, know I would be the LAST person to EVER say something bad about Deen  but that was not one of his best vocals. I'm not vocally knowledgeable, but it sounds like he's straining too much. It's cool to hear the song acoustic though.

The "hitmaker" has 3 or versions of DSB with DC singing and 1 with SP. They are on iTunes.

Musially it's absolutely wonderful. Vocally, it's atrocious. Kind of sounds like me after 3 straight days of drinking. Not that I would ever do that.

Yeah, vocally it is rough, but I was speaking more in terms of the arrangement. So where did this DJ guy get Deen's vocals? Is this Neal & Jonathan playing on this track? Overall a pretty cool take on the song, if only from the perspective of being a bit less bombastic and a little more in line with the lyrical content of the original.

I agree, the arrangement is artistic and wonderful. Would love to hear the other guy, that sang the original, on it. Could be a hit with him on it.

I would be nice to hear a cd with acoustic versions of their songs. Edge of the Blade would sound awesome, with both Neal and JC on guitar-ERIC

I dunno about Edge...interesting to hear acoustic...but that's a total electric song.

That is what would make it a good song. They would have to redo it a little, have John and Neal beef it up. JSS could really pour some vocals on it with Deen backing it up.
The cd would have to have some the Dirty Dozen on it, but take some lesser known album tracks and redo them. It would make for a great cd.-ERIC

I'm playin' Edge on acoustic right now...just not feelin' it. Love to see what Journey/JSS does with it if it happens though. :-)

I emailed Hitmaker about this track when it came out a while back (I got this on CD single) and he kindly replied to answer a couple of questions - basically, the 'original' remix of the track sampled the original version with SP, but there was some licensing issue due to Sony (?) owning the original recording, and the asking price to use it was way too high, which stopped it getting a 'proper' release, so he got Deeno to re-cut the vocal.

There is an old thread here somewhere with all the info in it about this - if I remember rightly all profits from the CD went to the White Sox or something.

Hope this is of interest to you.

Dude, I don't know you, I don't know if you are a dude or a woman, but you can't be so serious as to say the White Sox, the FUCKING Chicago White Sox, are getting the money from this. The CHISOX are a Major League Baseball team. I never rolled my eyes so hard that it hurt my head.

Thanks, Dickhead.

This version is NOT incredible. It's a decent mix. Look, it followed up Lippers tenure. U need to lighten up and realize HE ISN'T a singer......He's a fucking drummer with a sub par voice that sounds like Perry at several different tones.....and everyone I've sent this to has loved it??? Who cares?...The song is not the best, actually, it sent chills down my spine out of horror at first. It was a promo for Hugs for Chicago too.....It's not Deens breakout private video.....Everyone relax.....Dean, can we go on vacation like tomorrow?????

DSB is the greatest song ever written. It's been my all-time favourite song since the first time I heard it, on a chartered bus on the way back to Düsseldorf from Den Haag, where my "soccer" team had just returned from a tournament...in the fall of '81, October perhaps...it was late at night, and a kid in my class had just gotten the tape from his cousin in the U.S. This song touched me in a way that nothing had before and nothing will again...it's become one of my dear friends over the years...

Dude,

I think you're out of line here. Castro is not a singer compared to whom? Compared to Perry? Augeri? Soto? Hagar? I'd say Castro has a killer voice that can hang with Perry and is as good as about anyone I can think of that still has the balls to sing. Journey could have saved themselves a lot of pain by putting Castro up front and plugging in another drummer. It would have went miles farther than the current line for two reasons. First, Castro can cover the back catalog well and secondly, it wouldn't alienate nearly as many fans by bringing him out from behind the drum kit. When I listen to the current line up, the only time I say "Holy shit those vocals are awesome" is when Castro is on the mic. Who comes in to save the day when the notes can't be hit? Is it Brian Johnson ... Ronnie James Dio ... James Hetfield ... Fag boy Rob Halford or Ozzy? Fuck no, it's Super Castro dude.

Give us all a break and relax. The vocals in this thread may not be his best but the fucker can sing, and sing better than a lot of folks in the business these days. And, he's a good fuckin dude.

L8r,

Aaron

Deano - I'm a long time lurker here and try not to post so much cos I know if I go something wrong you'd fuckin fry me alive in a second - I love your style and discovered these forums because of your legendary blog a while back, so I really dont wanna get into a ruck with ya (is that avoidable other than not posting???) but heres what I found on the Hitmakers record co's website :

"What's On: The Hitmaker's first solo commercial release, Don't Stop Believin' (featuring Deen Castronovo), is on sale now at CD Baby, or downloadable from the iTunes Music Store. It pairs the drummer and sometime-lead-vocalist of Journey with The Hitmaker on four intense remixes of the Journey megahit (plus a sweet acoustic version only available in download form).
The Illinois Entertainer calls Deen Castronovo's vocals "inspired"; we call them awesome. Get the tracks now, and feel good about the fact that the profits will go to Chicago White Sox Charities. "

Heres the link : http://www.tierecords.com/thehitmaker/

Sorry I didn't get the exact details right - I should have known better.

Thanks dickhead? Right on!!!! RockinDeano called me a dickhead! I really made it this time mom!
