Forever in Blue | If He Should Break Your Heart

Postby Jeremey » Thu May 24, 2007 10:26 pm

What one would you rather hear live? It's a real tossup for me. I think they're both great songs. For a live performance though, I think the edge goes to Forever In Blue, though Neal's solo in IHSBYH is a classic.

If He Should Break Your Heart is one of my favorite Perry-era Journey ballads.

I've heard FIB be described as a VH rip off, though I think it's the tone of Neal's guitar in the opening chord riff that recalls VH more than the song itself. Great high energy song, and Perry's desperation in the vocal on the bridge is heart wrenching. It's the energy of this song that gives it the live edge in my book.

Agreed. FIB is a mid-tempo song, whereas IHSBYH is more of a traditional ballad. So yeah, it's gonna have the live edge.

FIB is more solid, with extra peanuts and corn. IHSBYH does have the more pungent smell and deeper brown color.

IHSBYH wins!

It's one of my least favorites off that album. The lyrics are just way too cheesy.

IHSBYH - I like the overall sound of FIB but the lyrics are just more of Perry's blue eyes obsession.

IHSBYH has already been done live at least once, so I'm going with FIB.

I took the lesser of the evils in FIB.

BTW, I classify IHSBYH as a ballad. Maybe not a power ballad per se but ballad. And NOT A BAD one at that.

My other succinct observation is that FIB was like a demo for the better, rockier A Better Life off Generations. Same sort of main Neal part. Same sort of verse structure where the vox build but never open the throttle all the way up.

"Let's reform this thing.Let's go out and get some guys who want to work and go do it"--Neal Schon February, 2001

Very tough, I like them both. Went with IHSBYH, the soulful delivery of that one wins out.

Jer - I've always thought IHSBYH was one of Journey's top 10 songs, ever. Forever in Blue is amazing too - top 20 material. Hard choice. I've heard you nail FIB, but I'd rather hear IHSBYH. You're the man.

Sorry, but I can't skip either of them fast enough, lol. Two of my least favorite Jrny songs.

Yeah, I just don’t get that. Or when people list these as their faves from TBF, as they are among my least faves on this album. It still surprises me just how different the tastes are even among Jrny fans about Jrny songs. Lol, different strokes...

yeah I used to skip Castles Burning a lot...not that the song was crap, but I just felt that it got too repetitous and long with the guitar thing at the end. Other than that, the song would've been great to me.

Yeah, do NOT like CB - the chorus is weak, and I don't really get into the subject matter. Great riffing, just not much meat there!

It's got a killer hook. I find myself singing this song during the day (after listening to TBF for the past couple days) without even realizing it. This song WAS released wasn't it?

Plus FIB has one of the classic opening lines, "When she walked into the room, I felt her move me."

I prefer "When she walked into the room, I felt her boobies."
