I must say, I never had the chance to meet him. I heard he was a truly good person. But hell, he provided me with quite a few childhood memories that I would like to forget. Plus, that damn hat! :roll:

Man, I forgot about that, and as a union man I should be pissed. But Landry was just doing what he was told. He was the coach, not the man in charge of whether they crossed the picket line or not. Running the score up is what you do against a rival dude. In that case though, I understand your point. I still think Landry was a good man.

I remember the third and final strike game, when the Washington Redskins, the ONLY team who did not have a single player cross the picket line, beat the REAL Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football. '87 feels like yesterday for Birds fans. We never felt more alive than when Buddy was the coach. He might have been a terrible game day coach, but that might have been the most fun team we ever watched!

God on Earth Tom Landry and his first string scabs throttled our hapless Eagles, led by a bunch of fast food workers, 41-22. Two weeks later, when Randall Cunningham took a fake knee and then threw down field against Dallas with seconds left and a 30-20 lead, it was akin to Michael Corleone offing the other NY families. JUSTICE!

My god, was that fake kneel down the most justified score-run-up EVER.

I don't even think Buddy was that bad a game day coach, hell he won a LOT of games here...Just in the playoffs when teams had time to prepare to do a somewhat decent job against his "46" the offensive strategy of "Randall gimme 5 big plays and the defense will do the rest including score" did not cut it.

Alas.

Those 3 good buddy teams with the Gang Green Defense (4 if you count 91 w/ Kotite as coach) are my favorite NFL teams ever.
