Steve Perry....

Postby Saint John » Sun May 27, 2007 7:59 am

You konw what? I just listened to EVERYTHING Perry did with Journey. I'm stunned. From the begining to TBF...the guy is amazing. TBF haters need to really listen to the vocals on that album. Pure brilliance. Oh yeah, and this...Perry LET Journey (Schon and his 26 wives, Friga and his gay tendencies and Ross and his 16 bankruptcies) MOVE ON. Think what you want, but they had 1 more album to do and Perry did it and let them move on WITH the name. Quit trashing HIM and trash Friga and Schon for their poor decisions...like Augeri. Pery still loves and repects their music, unlike Friga and Schon.

Hmm, I can't decide if your caught up in the perfect pipes from Perry
or your dabbling in chemicals tonight.
Either way I say it's a good night if your listening to the Lad's.

Just curious...why do you say that Schon and Friga don't respect their music anymore? :?

Moonie, I'm just paying my respects to the guy that MADE Journey...along with Schon. I hate Friga...he sucks cocks like a kid eats candy. He's worthless and they need Perry and Rolie back. Without them, they're done. JSS will be a disposable hero...just another catalog singer to make Friga and Schon a few bucks. They're musically and artistically dead.

Oh....What now? It's like all the hopes and dreams of a killer album with a JSS fronted Journey are starting to fade....Are they?
There are too many hints on this board already and frankly,it's getting tireing.

If there are problems in *Paradise*,what can we expect?Well,I for one would absolutely love to hear a new album with Jeff on vocals.
If not, well, shit,I'll do what you're doing today,Saint John - grab the CDs and listen to the good ole times.

I swear, sometimes I have the feeling that this board is full of kids playing.

Dan,

I spent much of today cleaning and watching the greatest hits DVD and a boot DVD a kind soul here sent me. I also watched the video that Travis made of the Journey concert at the polo match. And here's my thought...

I agree. Steve Perry IS utterly incredible from beginning to end. The more I watch, the more I respect the earlier stuff with Rolie. What struck me though in comparing the Journey of 'then' with the Journey of 'now' is not the lead singer, it's the rest of the band. Particularly Neal and Ross, but Friga some too. There is nothing more fun to watch than Ross 'getting into it' or Neal totally kicking ass on his guitar. I don't see that enthusiasm now. I don't know if it's age, or boredom with the same music over and over and over and over... or a combination of the two (likely). But, I don't currently see men up there with a passion for what they're doing.

I don't know if Jeff will ultimately make a difference in that, and truthfully don't know if SP could bring back any of the spark either. I am hopeful for only GREAT things for Jeff, and even if the Journey gig doesn't work (I have no reason to believe it won't!) I think he'll come out on top. I would obviously LOVE to see a Journey reunion with SP, but that's for selfish reasons.

Perry's vocals on TBF are great. It's the songs that (mostly) suck.

I don't know what happened, but after Frontiers, he just wasn't able to write a lot of memorable melody lines...the kind of stuff that sticks with you long after the song is over. FTLOSM isn't bad, but I don't really remember any of the songs on it after it's over, no real spectacular hooks or anything, and TBF was kind of the same, albeit with better guitar playing and drumming.

Personally, I thought Arrival was hit and miss, but when it worked, I think it captured the spirit of Journey better than TBF..."Higher Place," "To Be Alive Again," "We Will Meet Again"...catchy as hell with huge choruses and vocal harmonies that to me, were more memorable than most of TBF. I think working with Jack Blades helped restore some of that as well.

Anyone who thinks that Steve Perry can still sing or can run around like he did 25 years ago is just plain ignorant. The guys doesn't have a voice anymore. The man has been gone for 10 years. Move on already.
