This Weekend!!!

Postby sindee67 » Sun May 27, 2007 7:56 am

My Grandfather served in WWII~The Battle of the Buldge, and Normandy..Some call it D-Day..
This is my first Memorial Day without him.
As I'm studying my Consumer and/or Public Law, the tv is on {I need some noise...LOL} and, there is a program about the 4 Chaplains.

All my years of sitting and listening to my Grandaddy tell his stories, he never mentioned them...
Do any of you know their story???
This Memorial Day, can we remember them, and ALL the men and women who serve our country so well, and sacrifice so much...for ALL NATIONS!!!!

The Four Chaplains were four Army chaplains who gave their lives when the USAT Dorchester was hit by a torpedo and sank on February 3, 1943. They helped other soldiers board lifeboats and gave up their life jackets when the supply ran out. 230 men of the 902 aboard survived the attack.

Oh, and another thought for our recent Fallen Blue Angel!!!

I will absolutely include them in my prayers Cindy, and say an extra one for you and yours to get through this holiday with your grandfather in your hearts.

What a terrific post. Who else has family who served or are currently serving?

In my family, my dad served during the Korean War. He remained stateside though. His father was from Italy, and he fought for the Italians in WWI (my grandfather was older when my dad was born, and my dad was older when I was born, so yes, it is possible for a 38-year-old to have a grandfather who fought in WWI.)

My grandfather on my mom's side was a soldier in Britain during WWII. He was stationed all over Europe. He got injured by shrapnel, and instead of being sent home, he was sent to London to be a bicycle messenger for the military leaders. He was gone pretty much all of the time for the first 6 years of my mom's life.

My stepdad was in the Navy during WWII. He was a medic.

I hope we all can take at least a moment out of our party schedules to give thanks to the men and women who gave their lives for us.

My uncle was Sargent Major and was in WWII and Korea and just as Vietnam started he retired from the service after 25 years. Remember those that fought and those that continue to fight. Thank you Cindy for this post.
