However,he was better with Tall Stories.
Journey's touring schedule was too much for him, plus he had to change his natural singing style and that took a toll on him.
Let's face it...Augeri was hired just because his timbre was somewhat similar with Perry's.
I have no doubt that this was the thing the band wanted in the first place - to preserve the Perry sound as much as possible.
They have made new fans, focused on touring, recorded 2 1/2 albums and made some money.
However, business wise, the after-Perry Journey was a fiasco...No radio time for the new songs,no PR,no chart hits, poor sales, and then a nasty black cloud (TG) hanging over their heads.
They will have to work hard to rebuild their name and get it out in the spotlight - and that means a new killer album and a some wise PR/marketing making waves.
I for one,am waiting to see this happening. The sooner, the better.

Good points, Laura....To get away from the Perry/Augeri conflict here, I want to share my thoughts on Journey's future success....Obviously I'm a huge Perry fan, and wasn't too big a fan of Augeri's (his shortcomings in that 2001 clip were enough to make me cringe a little), but a long time ago, when I started living in these songs a little with Frontiers, I began to realize that it's the SONGS that make us fans. Sure, we're fans of the band, and we get passionate about the decisions that they make (or in some cases that are forced on them), but ultimately it is the magic that spins forth from this music each and every time it's performed - Whether on the radio, on The Sopranos, or even a bar band that wants to share some of that magic with their audience. That magic comes from a very special place, and it will live on forever, spontaneously, every time those songs are performed and there is an audience to enjoy them. I've always felt that those songs are brand new, every time they are performed, regardless of who they are performed by as long as they are coming from that same place. I'll guarantee you that Perry, Schon, and Cain all recognize that as well.
So what will get Journey on the radio? What will get them into the RRHOF? What does it matter? As fans it's fun to speculate and throw around the "what if" scenarios. But for me, the music - Those songs - that's what I throw my support behind. Not living in the past, but enjoying each and every time those songs are born again on the radio, in concert with JSS, on TV and in movies. And if there's new music that comes from that same place, it will find it's way in the world as well.
Sorry to get so esoteric here. You know, I'm about to take a fairly long break from performing these songs for people, and looking at some pretty big changes in my life with little Quinn on the way. I've spent a lot of time rediscovering this music over the past month or so, and realizing that it will never, ever go away.
Happy Monday, everyone!

Thats why I like Frontiers, i can enjoy the music of Journey without all the baggage. I am open to new stuff from Journey. Enjoy your break with your new family., Ill miss hearing you guys, I hope there are no more tragedies for in your band, steve
