Journey...Time To Give Up On The Dream!

Postby Enigma869 » Thu Jun 14, 2007 7:45 am

In the interest of full disclosure, I have ALWAYS been and will ALWAYS be a Perry guy! I thought Augeri was an adequate singer (he could certainly carry a tune better than I ever could), but simply wasn't on the same planet with Perry. I thought Jeff was a VERY likeable, regular guy, who got better with the Journey material, with each passing performance. That said, Jeff simply wasn't on the same level as Perry, either, and would be the first to admit that.

That brings us to 2008, and these so-called plans Journey are working on. Does this band seriously think it can roll out yet another replacement for Perry's replacement and move on? I guess from what I'm reading, they believe they can. Once a band starts rolling out their 4th lead singer (and to you Journey historians out there...before Perry doesn't count to me, and never will), it becomes a sad comedy! I've always believed that Schon and Cain are brilliant musicians. That said, I can't believe these guys are really arrogant enough to believe that whomever the lead singer is, doesn't really matter much!

In my opinion, Journey has made a living (and a very good one) off of the legacy of Steve Perry, period, end of story! I realize this isn't a popular opinion with some Journey fans, but the facts speak for themself! This band has done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, since they parted company with Perry. Sure...they can keep travelling city to city and performing their greatest hits, under the name Journey. They will NEVER be taken seriously again, by most Journey fans! For the record, I was on record as feeling that way, long before Augeri left and before Jeff was brought in. They've been trying to replace Perry for 10 years, and I think it's time that they simply admit the obvious...the guy simply isn't replaceable, and Journey isn't Journey without the guy!

For the record, I'm not someone banging the drum for Perry to come back, because I'm sure Perry wants no part of this mess! I would say that Perry is laughing about this debacle, but something tells me that he is probably more embarrassed by all of it, considering that he is more linked to the Journey name than anyone else! I honestly cannot believe Journey even dares to announce yet, another lead singer! At what point do they actually stop taking themselves seriously???? Hell, I don't think even the most dysfunctional bands in the history of rock have EVER gone through this many lead singer changes! This is unprecendented, and that's why it's time for Journey to pack it in and go home! It's time for Neal to go open a guitar school, and fade off into retirement!

I'll never forgive Schon and Perry for allowing their egos to destroy what was Journey to me! I never thought being such a huge Journey fan would be so embarrassing! These guys simply can't get their shit together! Good luck to Jeff and thanks to him for being a good dude and always respecting the legacy of Journey, more than the current members ever have!

I beleive the words Perry spoke in the BTM special was " to fracture the name Journey" they have done mor than facture the name know..it has be shattered into pieces.
This move really makes me think about what really took place in this band behind closed doors..things seemed good to the fan, just watching these guys perform they seemed very happy and things going in the right direction.

John: The announcement sounded to me almost that Journey would not come back, either. They have closed BT and I thought the announcement was very vague. I would miss them terribly! I don't think this is such a big mess; they brought Jeff in during the middle of last year's tour and something happened. I think Jeff is a really great guy and musician, but for instance I thought he mangled Opened the Door at one of the shows. There was a clip of him singing a part of Daydream on here at one time and he just couldn't reach the higher register of notes. (Please don't lob verbal grenades at me.) Maybe there wasn't any "chemistry" either as StoryTeller said in another thread. Maybe Journey is done with it, too. Am all over the place with this note but bottom line is I have too much memory and emotion invested with Journey's songs that I could never not be a fan. Gotta go to work; hope nobody gets too mad at me if they read my whole post.

I used to look at the mess VH fans have been dragged through with EVH with pity. But now we're almost worse off than VH fans...I hope Neal hasn't been getting band management advice from Eddie....

Just a sad situation...

I am with John/Bostin. He saves me typing energy. Who is writing the Rx's for the band? That may be an explanation because it does seem to be insanity destroying a band that finally had a small chance.

I tend to agree that Journey is definitely approaching Van Halen with all these lead singers. VH is the only other band I can think of that even approached this many lead singers, and by my tally, Halen only has had three! Who knows where the Journey merry go round ever stops!
