Well, that was a great read! I'm glad he spoke out on it...I remember when he posted about seeing JRNY with Jeff & was pretty excited. This thread should be a STICKY! I am impressed also that he went back to school to finish his Doctorate in Astrophysics, no less.

And, this I sure like: "And their singer all through their Golden Age can no longer perform with them (Steve Perry, a truly luminous singer, in my opinion - a voice in a million)."

Well, now we get a shock. I know in my heart Jeff would never have walked out on this - he is way too loyal. It saddens me that he seems to been shed like a used pair of boots. Those boots sure covered some good ground. You know, for all the reasons above, it's understandable that Journey might decide to make a U-turn. I just hope that they will be man enough to say so if this is the case, rather than hiding behind some kind of pretence that it was a mutual decision. That's an integrity thing, and a Karma thing. You have to own yer own poo. And I hope they will see fit to recognise Jeff's lasting contribution to the Family, and realise that he deserves to be treated with respect. And ... I desperately hope they don't go down that other road: Journey is worth a whole lot more than Option 2.

Well Neal and Friga, Sorry, but you did Option 2 before and HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!!! Sorry, like I said, anyone they get is just a circus act at this point. Neal and Friga should wear bags over their heads if they decide to tour again.

Here's Option 2 to REALLY look at and READ. Man, what a reality SMACK!!!! Thanks Bri. What a CRIME.

Option 2: They go out on tour with a 'replacement' for the legendary singer - someone who looks and sounds like Steve Perry; in this case they find themselves in a stale situation, where they are stuck in the past. I was always against this in our case - I could not stand being a fossil, going out there and effectively saying, "We can't improve on what is past - we have nothing more to say".

This is what I have LOVED, working with our wonderful colleague, Paul Rodgers - yes, we can play the old stuff, and yes we can be, in a sense, a continuation of Queen, but everything is new - the sky is the limit - because, like in the Old Days, we are working with a brilliant creator, we are sharing a new creative process, feeding off each other's ideas - experimenting, growing. This is what excites me, at the age of ...oh, forget it!!! ha ha ....

That was Jeff...and they kicked him to the curb like yesterday's trash.

Brian May, after 30+ years in the business, now THERE is a guy with a head on his shoulders. Such a logical and clear presentation of the situation.

Sad thing is, Friga and Fro can't see the same thing?

There isn't a single person on these boards that could have made as great a presentation as Brian May did. Not only that, but it carries so much weight based on his stature and friendship with Neal and Jeff. Nothing but the facts. All options laid bare. Slaps Journey down in a kind way if that's possible.

Brian said it like we only WISH we could. So articulate and practical but with obvious passion for Jeff and Journey.

Not trying to be too confrontational with you WyngDynger but
what would there be to reconsider???
You think those 2 pompous asses would
extend an apology to Jeff and try to mend fences???

Shit, do you honestly think Jeff would
give them the time of day after how all this
has gone down???

If you meant "reconsider just retiring this band for good" then I agree with you...
But if you meant reconsider Jeff... Forget it, ain't ever gonna happen.

I honestly don't know what to think. Anythin we hear from ANYBODY - be they band members or people who claim to be on the "inside" is ALL questionable. There's an agenda behind EVERYTHING that's being said.

I can only suppose that considering they dumped Jeff like this it seems to me that ANYTHING is possible. I think it's PROBABLE that Jeff comes back given the proper circumstances.

Ultmately, these guys have to trust each other and believe in their music. If they can do that then I think it's possible and probable.

Neal and Jon's pride will not allow them to bring Jeff back. Impossible at this point, in my opinion. They are dreaming of dollar signs right now and a guy who doesn't sound enough like Perry isn't going to bring that to them, in their thinking anyway.

speechless from Brians note... makes the events this week even sadder, from the top of the world DSB on the Sopranos, to the bottom of the barrell with the JSS situation! DOES NOT MAKE any sense to this fan. I say stop playing as Journey and form a new band. Hell they cant even go the route of soul Sirkus band anymore.. dumb ass Neal

I have disagreed with Mr May in the past on other issues but
in this case the man has my respect and I agree with him.
Thanks for posting this, good reads indeed.

EDITED TO ADD:............

I Should have made it clear in my post that I agree with Mr May
except on his thoughts for number 2.....sorry folks busy day here.

When you've gone this far down the greed gravel road why not
hire another to keep the cash cow grazing in the fields?
I mean no disrespect to anyone who may be chosen to fill
the Perry Penny loafer's but if it were me, I would cut myself off emotionally
and just cash into the music played as you know they will be doing.
As hard as it may be, that would be my goal.

I Love Brian May. He is truly one of the greatest.

Brian put it nicely, can you Imagine what the rest of the music Industry is going to say if they hire a singer from a cover band? I don't give a shit how good someone is, you can't do that.

Another thing, what a bunch of chicken shit punks to shut down BT and erase Jeff like he never was there..That goes for EVERYBODY working for the band.

Amazing. We should all post this to every press office and forum that we know. Now there is a true gentleman who knows how to use his words politley and professionally. Journey should be ashamed of themselves. Thank you Brian for sharing your own thoughts with us and shedding some light on this horrible mess.

Brian May....the only real voice of reason I've heard on this so far. The man got his point across without even really being mean-spirited. People like him are the reason bands that have been around for a while like Queen continue to have great success. He knew that the key to staying in the game was NOT trying to find a Freddie clone (there will never be another like him, anyway), but in trying NEW things with a singer whose style is totally different and taking chances, exploring different directions artistically. Journey is stuck in a creative rut and Jeff could've been the key to getting the out of it. Guess we'll never know, but then maybe they don't like change as far as the 'Journey sound' goes. At any rate, Brian hit the nail on the head, and I'm glad that someone in the industry who is as respected as he is gave put this in perspective. I hope Neal & the others read it and weep.
