OT: GREAT NEWS ABOUT JOHN SPINKS OF THE OUTFIELD!!!

Postby 7 Wishes » Mon Jun 18, 2007 9:57 am

The fantastically talented John was SERIOUSLY ill with a rare form of cancer...I just found this update on the Outfield website:

Hi everyone,

Just a quick update regarding John Spinks' recent illness. Having spoken to him this past weekend, I can confirm that things are moving along in a positive direction and that John is on the road to a full recovery. He has asked me to let everyone know that he thanks you all for your continued concern, support and kind messages. We hope that you all understand that he and his family had wanted to deal with this serious & personal matter without too much fuss. Therefore, we kept the updates to a minimum.

As always, the songwriting and recording process has continued and there are a number of new songs in the pipe line. In addition, John has recently signed to a new publisher who we hope will be working hard with him and the band in the future to make new Outfield material available.

Some great news about one of the most underrated MR artists of all time...

I saw this recently, too. Was glad to see it. The announcement about his illness last year sounded very grave. Hope he has a full recovery!

Is he the singer/bass player? I saw those guys open for Journey on the ROR tour, and thought they were pretty great! Seemed like a good bunch of guys too, the lead guy kept trying to calm down the front row because he was worried about some fans getting hurt.

BTW, what illness?

I believe he had hpatocellular carcinoma, which is one of the most life-threatening cancers.

Great guys...stellar performances every time - amazing sound from a three-piece band, and except for the occasional keyboard part (which they didn't use much), they sounded just like the records in concert.

I got screwed on the ROR tour, we got Glass Tiger. Sure they had a few good songs, but that's it, just a FEW.

My best friend was a HUGE Outfield fan back in the day (still is now). Unfortunately, by the time they got to Houston, Glass Tiger was opening for them. They were ok, but we would've enjoyed The Outfield more.

He had some kind of liver cancer. (The info from last year is on their official page.) That's why I really thought he wouldn't make it. I'm glad he is recovering well.

aka....liver primary cancer. most cancers that end up in the liver are metastatic ca's from breast, lung and colon.

Wow, that's tough. Hope he can lick it. You are right, they did sound like the record, and they were a lot of fun to watch because they all got along well, and had tons of energy. I loved how melodic they were too.

So is it the singer? I remember his name, but I forgot which one his is, its been a long time since I heard of them.

Someone was asking a while back if he was the singer/bassist, and the answer is no. That person would be Tony Lewis. John Spinks is the guitarist/keyboardist/backing vocals. Spinks also writes the majority of the Outfield music as well. They actually make a very good team and I myself hope Spinks makes a full recovery and hope to hear from them again soon.

The tall blonde guy. Man that guy was explosive on stage! How he could run around that much and still play so well, is beyond me. Cool guy

Larry - you rock, dude. I've been looking for this stuff for two decades now. Awesome!

MR. BURNS: (Wiping away a Friga-esque tear.) Smithers, do you think my nuclear power plant was responsible for all those ducks dying?
SMITHERS: There can be no doubt, sir.
MR. BURNS: Excellent!
