I couldnt read the article. I got sidetracked by that gorgeous sexy photo of Perry. My pulse quickened &... well never mind.

brywool wrote:Funny that it's JOURNEY and they use Steve's photo who hasn't been with the band in years! Think if they ran a photo of Neal that anybody outside of the diehards would even know who the hell it was?
Perry WAS that band. As much as some of us deny it HE was the sound that made them. Guitar players? Dime a dozen (listen to the guy in The Storm- sounds just like Neal). Keyboard players? Same thing. However, a VOICE like that comes once in a decade, if that. Granted, Neal and Jon wrote some great tunes (with Perry, Rollie & Augeri), but it was Perry's passion and voice that sold the records. Without him, you just don't have that "THING" that makes Journey "Journey". I'm a big Augeri fan and I think he brought some things to the party and I dug his albums too, but the fact of the matter is- it will always be Perry he and anyone else in the band will be compared to- and rightly so. That guy had an inhuman voice that will cannot be replaced.
The rest of the world seems to realize this. It's only the real diehards that kind of tried (in vain) to keep the Journey fires burning without Perry.
What was the topic?

Yeah, I've always kind of been pissed at Perry for leaving the band hanging, etc. but seriously, that guy WAS what brought MOST people to this band, including myself. Crap, outside of The Beatles, Perry was the guy that made me want to be a singer. I dunno, I htink that people thinking it could be anything without him are in denial (I definitely was).

I couldn't agree more...without Perry, Journey would have faded before '80.

Irony abounding.

Time for the band and a lot of us to wake up to that (no offense to anyone here)
Ya know? I've been in denial, trying to put a show of support for "JOURNEY" over the last years since TBF. But painting it that way is pretty useless as I'm not much into Neal and Jon these days...

Neal and Jon should kind of wake up to this fact. Without Steve, there's only going to be SO much success for this band.
