Actually, even though their styles are different,
Deen has more to offer to this band, or any other
band that would land him, than Smitty.

Yeah, yeah, you're right.

I just spoke cynically. I meant as being in the band as it is now, glorified session artists. Ya know. Whatever is made from this, I can't figure any good of it. Deen IS talented. And could bring alot to the table with another group, which is why he should get while the getting is good.

That's my point.

The ONLY thing Deen has on Smitty is his ability to sing great background vocals. Smitty is better with one hand, and I'm NOT being facetious, than Deen is with two. There is NO comparison between these two guys when it comes to drumming. None at all.

Agree with the singing part...
But I also think Deen has alittle more 'range' and can
easily handle more different 'styles' of drumming than Smitty, that's all
I meant. I'm a SmittyLoon thru-and-thru but just think
Deen is alittle more versitaile.

Jeff is upset for one reason in particular. He doesn't know why he was fired. It's now become a game of Law and Order or Cold Case, where we are trying to piece the puzzle together. Jeff is upset about this, make no mistake, as we do know he wasn't let go for his performance. They blew Def Leppard away nightly after his arrival. This is something that they (Neal and Friga) know. Obviously it is something they aren't proud of because they don't have the balls to even call Jeff and simply put this all to bed and tell him why. This leads me to believe that there is something rotten in the bowels of these two guys....Ross isn't exempt from this either...he is a motherfucker as well as he is a liar. Yeah Ross, I figured it all out. You threw me under the bus publicly, so I owe you one

Anyway, had they just said, "Jeff, we just don't think the sound is right or the voice doesn't fit" or whatever. There would still be some waves but not nearly as bad as what we have now.

Aside from this, no one (except Rich Meyers), can argue that it was handled poorly.

And to those of you are intent on following this band, fuck you.

Smitty has studied every form of drumming imaginable. If I'm not mistaken he recently went back to school just to revisit fundamentals of drumming. He also did some African drumming too if I'm not mistaken. This guy is one of the 5 best all around technical drummers in the world. Deen isn't in the top 50.

I still think that some, and some have said they would, but some who are saying they are doen period, would support them if Perry did something with them, even if it was small and just for that.
I know that many say they don't have to worry about it or even think about it because it won't happen, but I believe that most everyone here would support anything Perry was involved in, even if it was a one time show with these morons.

Yes, if some how Steve Perry lost all good sense and rejoined Jrny, I'd have to be there too. Nothing says we can't wear t-shirts that say "FU NS" & "FU JC"!

Dream on, Castro is far and away a more rounded rock drummer. More power, better fills. Smitty, is technically very good but he just don't hit 'em hard enough. He's never felt like a natural. Bonham was a natural.

Carlitto, the only thing Dean has over Smitty is vocals. Any drummer will tell you that Smitty is in a league all by himself. Yes, he's primarily a jazz drummer, however, he can switch gears to any style...and play like no other. Nothing against Dean, but he'd be the first to tell you that SS is a true master class. Have you ever even seen what SS can do with one hand? Pro drummers admire him to no end.

Yes, I have seen what Smitty can do...
Caught 2 of his Drum Clinics in Va back in the 90's...

I just think Deen can handle more "contemporary" styles
if asked/needed to...
I can't see Smitty playing like Deen did with SS, Ozzy or even Hardline.

That said, Smitty is the ultimate drummer for Journey...
Deen would be more appealing to most other current bands if needed, that's all I meant.

This is the first time since 1987 that I truly feel like Journey is really, really over. Done. Finished. I've been listening to most of my Perry-era music and boots and just feeling like an old friend is truly gone.

I appreciate Arrival and Red 13 - valiant efforts to capture the past but it was just that...an attempt to try and recreate something magical with two different members. They've been trying for 10 years and it just isnt happening.

One thing I remember from BTM and I am sure its the way it was edited but there was a clip of Steve A. saying "we're trying see if we CAN go on...." (paraphrasing, of course.) But it was interesting because he emphasized "Can go on" in the clip which has always made me wonder if there was some doubt all along about the ability for there to truly be a Journey after Steve Perry.

Guess we know now...
"Well let me tell you what problems Steve Perry has. The only problem Steve Perry has is that he's alive just like you are and he has to wake up in the morning like you do and he has to face the world exactly like you do. " ~ Steve Perry

Ya know something, I just thought about this ^ after reading it. Thinking about the things Perry has been up to lately versus what Journey has been up to...

Perry's been taking shit for a few years now for popping up here and there to do a backing vocal or help out a young band because he isn't doing what some people feel he "should" be doing and recording his own album, or whatever, but I've decided that at least he's doing some good - lending his voice (maybe more importantly, his name and a Journey song for them to cover) to that punk band who probably wouldn't get noticed otherwise...

Menwhile, what are his former bandmates up to? Knifing folks in the back? Screwing up the good name that was Journey?

So I agree. Perry stock up. Journey stock? Couldn't give that shit away.

This is probably going to ruffle a few feathers, but WTF. I wouldn't go see another Journey concert even IF Perry was back in the band after this, I might collect a new cd after it was thrown in the bargin bin for about $5, but I will not buy another new record from this band. They fucked up. If Perry comes back great, enjoy all listening to Pro Tools music again because that's all you'll get from him. It'll be tapegate all over again. This Jeremey guy, good god he sounds like Perry more so than Perry could right now, but you know what, I don't care. If I want to hear Perry I'll listen to GH-Live Or Escape Live. The band should be concerned about making music for the future, instead they're worried about passing out their hats trying to get enough money for the next botox injection or in Neal's case a new pair of night vision sunglasses. They screwed up when they let JSS go and it shows they have no class by telling him why and it's a classless move, by a classless organization.

I, for one, am getting REALLY tired of hearing this when it comes to this band. What really happened with SP??? What really happened with SA? Who knew what, and whose decision was it to facilitate and continue the fraud? And now, why was Jeff really dismissed without so much as a 'kiss my ass'!??

I guess we'll never know. How lame. These guys are musicians, not nuclear scientists. They should just admit their fuck-ups~I'm sure we would respect them a little more. As it stands now, I have no respect for Friga & the Fro. Can't see it changing either.

Deen is one strong rock drummer. Smitty studys alot of other styles these days. I don't know how interested he is in playing mainstream stuff anymore.

It's really tough to compare the two in 2007.

During the main event tour Todd Sucherman (sp?) was head and shoulders better than Deen or Bryan Hitt.

I agree with you, Deano. Saint John, I don't know if you're a fan of drumming or an active drummer, but I've been playing for over 20 years. I learned by playing along to the likes of Peart, Copeland, and Collins. Yes, Steve Smith is tremendous, but Deen- even though he's approaching official Douchedom by going along with Neal and his man-bitch wife Friga- is an excellent drummer. I'd put him in the top fifty no problem. He could cut heads with the likes of Smitty, Peart, Collins, Copeland, Portnoy, etcetera quite handily. There are so many good drummers out there that even picking a top fifty would be difficult. Go to Drummerworld online and simply view the list of drummers there- it makes your head spin!

I can tell you love Smitty, but don't sell Deen short- even though he still hangs with the D-Bag Twins.

Respect! As Brian May so elequantly put it........they need to "own their own poo." They might even have gained 1 or 2% of the respect I lost for this band if they would actually have had the balls to sit down and talk it out with Jeff. :x

Respect from some, but maybe they figure it's not enough to risk putting all their cards on the table.

Then they have no integrity and don't deserve fans.
