Question...Can't Jeff be sued???

Postby G.I.Jim » Thu Jun 21, 2007 12:37 am

Hey Everyone,
I've been sitting back reading all of the posts for the last several days and decided to throw this question into the mix, as I haven't heard anyone else bring it up. I've hardly ever posted on this site, but I'm sure several of you will be blasting me for this, so here it goes....

Jeff signed a confidentiality agreement from the moment he stepped up to the Journey plate. He has devulged all of this confidential Journey ordeal to several of his friends (As well as a few here). His friends then proceed to spill all of this information all over the web. Has anyone thought about the fact that Journey has a serious case for a lawsuit? I'm not saying that they would, nor am I saying I believe they should, but think about it... They would have every legal right to do so.

Before everyone grabs their pitchforks, and torches, I don't have anything against Jeff!!! I've seen him twice in concert (and he was a great showman by the way) and loved his performances! I own some of his cd's and will continue to support him, as I believe he's a great artist. I've had the opportunity to meet him, and he was a very nice, down-to-earth guy. I understand that he's angry at the unfolding events (understandably), but I'm just wondering if anyone else has though about the legal issues at hand with him devulging all of this info? I wish him the best of luck and hope to hear some new Talisman, or solo material.

Okay, I'm ready for my blasting...

I can't see how JSS would've violated anything.

Nor can I see the band suing him for anything anyway.

They wouldn't dare. As if the PR they are getting from this isn't bad enough. If they did sue, then all hell would break loose and all stories would get told.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

I dunno man, they seem pretty hard up for dollars at this point. They'll probably go after him just to make a few bucks!

;)
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Honestly, I don't think there's much of a leg to stand on. Most of what Marcel posted was based on what he saw & heard first hand during the Talisman farewell tour. As with other "information" that has been gained, a lot of that could be from what others that were around Jeff at the time saw or heard.

I don't think there's really anything that could be pinned directly on him that would be grounds for a lawsuit against him regarding his confidentiality agreement. You'll notice that he hasn't come forward himself and said one word either way other than to dispel one or two totally inaccurate rumors.
Peace ~

Good point, but he's told several people including people on this website what Journey's plans were. Including the direction the band was headed, and about who was heading to California. I wasn't so much talking about the post Marcel put up here.

Gotcha - didn't realize anyone actually said "Jeff said...." about any of that.

No way.
They make flat out COIN when they tour.

When the money's burnt through book a block of gigs. Even if a bandmember lives paycheck to paycheck irresponsibly, it's not like say, HOTS living paycheck to paycheck.

Not when Journey management seemingly went behind his back and had one of their other artists "break the news" to Jeff. That right there, throws any confidentiality out the window.

This about this like normal people, don't bring in Judge Judy Justice (copyrighted by me) into this equation, people.

So if Jeff heard from another singer in Azoff's stable that he was out, has he still had no official word from Band or management?? :?
Or is everyone still ignoring his calls? Or has he just given up calling?

I've just read Marcel's statement. And I've seen a post by Deano stating that Jeff still doesn't know the REASON he was fired. So I'm assuming he's been 'officially fired' by someone, but I'm not clear on who? Do we know who actually fired him?

Sorry to be a bit slow, but with all the posts on here it's hard to keep up with everything unless you sit in front of your computer 24/7.

Well I don't think JSS has specifically told anyone anything if you read his MYSPACE blog he does not state anything, he only alludes to what may have happened. In fact he has not categorically made any statement , or if you will played kiss and tell any where. That is not really a breach in confidentiality, well at least not in the UK. As for his friends spilling info out all over the place, they are not bound by any confidentiality, or gagging order, which ever way you wish to view it, and isn't democarcy all about freedom of speech? Therefore they can say what they have actually witnessed , and in Marcel Jacobs place that is first hand.
I do not see how someone who has been dumped, and rather unceremoniously at that, can be sued. All I could see coming from an law suit like that is claims and counter claims which would turn the whole thing into a circus. There is a fine line between divulging confidential information and Allusion, I know as I myself am bound to confidentiality in the Job that I do. :)

I don't see them suing him. It wouldn't accomplish anything and like has been said already, the PR nightmare it would create would be awful, if that matters to them anymore.

You're right,
His friends didn't sign a confidentiality agreement...He did. Of course he's not going to put much of anything in writing on his Myspace, as that would definately constitute a lawsuit! Again, I don't want him or anyone else involved to be sued. I just thought I'd bring up the legality of this. I know several of you on here have said you now hate Journey, and won't support them from here on out. I don't know all of the behind the scenes stuff, and honestly don't care all that much to be honest! All I know is that Journey wrote most of my favorite songs and are responsible for me being a musician today!!! I'll support them no matter who they decide to go with on vocals. As far as their "Legacy sound" goes, I look forward to hearing music that sounds more like Perry. That's the sound I grew up with and love, still to this day! I'll be the 1st one in line for their next album!!!
