"Beyond the Thunder" was SO boring. Almost as bad as Cain's album where he's standing in the hall. He's standing in the hall because he can't even walk into a room with that kind of muzak playing! I remember the press around "Beyond" after it was released: "after all these years, I've finally found my voice on the guitar" um, yeah... It's good background music for a dinner party with your parents or inlaws. "Voice " is also a friggin' easy listening album. The fact that he'd cover some of the songs that he did on that album... shudder...

BOTH are boring as hell.

You want a good Schon album- It's "Late Night". A great makeout album and just a great piece of work from someone that's turned out to be a great piece of ... well, you get the idea, dontchya?
There's somebody singing with him on that album doing Perry-esque skats. It worked quite well.

Cmom man, this CD has some great guitar playing. I have a friend that thinks Schon plays too fast all the time. This CD shows his skills when he restrains himself. I can see where some think it's boring but sometimes it's nice to put on something mellow to relax to.

I dunno, it's got some good tunes on it, but I only put it on whe I just want to chill or have a romantic evening. I do like the one with the wolves on it, so it's not all bad. Voices, I'd never purchase.

I've got that HSAS CD from way back when. I'll have to give it a spin again. It's been quite a while.

Beyond the Thunder and Eye on U are Neal's best solo albums IMO, but Beyond the Thunder has a really deep emotional feel that I always knew Neal was capable of conveying. He connected to something special on that one. Wish he would go back and revisit that approach. I loved it.

Eye on U is definitely more of a rocker approach, but it's all melodic. Neal plays guitar as if the strings are the vocal chords of an emotional singer. It's what makes him unique, but at the same time, it's why he has a hard time finding musical chemistry with other vocalists who don't tap that same place like Perry did. It's what gave them their chemistry.

I think you hit the nail on the head here. Good luck to them finding that elusive chemistry again.
