how did you first get into journey?

i'm sure this has been asked in the past.i'm a new member and i just wondred how everyone here discovered the band.really interested in the responses....

myself.i was in second grade.i think the year was '82.i kept hearing open arms on the radio.i loved that song.that whole year i though escape was their only release.then my grandmother bought a used 45 with lovin' touchin squeezin' at a yard sale.i ended up liking it more than open arms.strange thing is my grandmother knew nothing about rock n roll being nearly 70.i think she might have seen me listening to journey a lot and saw that on the 45 and bought it.my mother was in love with steve perry big time and had a huge crush.her favorite song was 'don't stop believin'

when they came to memphis in '83 on the frontiers tour i begged to go.being only eight years old i didn't get to go but she did.boy was i mad,lol.never did get to see 'em with perry or ever for that matter.i think i might've gone if they hadn't aborted the trial by fire tour.i turned 21 that year and did get to see the reformed kiss in '96.maybe i'll get to see the reformed journey.a lot of people here were probably too young to get to see them the first time around.c'mon steve one more shot!!

My mom recently told me she used to play it when i was a baby before i went to bed and while i slept she'd play it before she went to bed..
Then a few years ago i went on a camping trip with my now somewhat ex-girlfriend (she moved away to texas for college) and her parents.. her dad played the greatest hits cd in his truck on the way there and i loved it and was somewhat familiar with the songs.. so i downloaded some of it, then bought the essential journey cd and loved it so i then bought all 7 of the studio perry era remasters and all 3 studio perry solo remasters cause hes the best.. imo.

I got hooked in '98 when I heard "Remember Me" on the Armageddon soundtrack and never looked back.

I never knew who Steve Perry was until after I had been a fan for a while...I assumed that Steve A. was the original singer. (And rightfully so, he kicks much ass.) After I heard "Remember Me" I told my mom, "I see why you like Journey!" and she said, "Oh yeah, Steve Perry is great." I was like, "I think you mean Steve Augeri." lol

Anyway, I eventually learned the history of the band and became familiar with all the great classic songs (saw them live in 2001, great, great show) and I'll always enjoy a lot of the songs from all eras of the band, if not the decisions they make and/or the way they go about enforcing them....

It was right around my 16th bday (1980) and I heard Departure/Good Morning Girl/Stay Awhile played at a school dance. That voice just captured me and I asked the DJ who it was. I immediately went home and went through my older brother's record albums and pulled out all the Journey ones and convinced him to let me have them.

My brother is the one that got me into Journey. Back in 2002, I knew who they were, but was unsure of the songs and music they sang. He had an extra ticket that he could of got rid of then, and I decided to pass since I didn't really know. 2 years ago is when it hit me, hardcore. I work for my brother, and he just played the Greatest hits CD all day long as we worked. Little by little, it just grew on me. I went to Wal Mart one night and saw the GH cd and picked it up. The rest is history. I listen to NOTHING but Journey. Literally. It's music that never gets old.

The first time I heard Lights, that was it for me. I was 9 years old when Infinity came out and I earned allowance to buy the album. The song that sticks with me more than any other of theirs is Winds Of March. When I found out I was pregnant with my son and daughter, both times I found out in March. I used to sing it to them when they were babies...I did change one of the lines to "I held you in my arms". I still love singing that song..always will. I might be a disgruntled fan lately, but the music still moves me.

I knew about a little Journey for much of my life, but not much outside of "Lights," "Any Way You Want It," and "Don't Stop Believin'."

I was becoming a classic rock fan back when I was 17 (two years ago... LOL), constantly cranking the tunes of Van Halen, ZZ Top, and The Doobie Brothers as I'd cruise the town with my baby, livin' and lovin' life large. She broke up with me in a shady turn of events, and as I drove home from her house crying that fateful evening, a song came over the radio. Everything about it related to my situation, and the killer instrumentation/singing didn't hurt matters either. The DJ didn't say who did the song, it just went straight to commercial afterward. I went straight to Wal-Mart, even in my troubled state, and asked random people in the music section who performed that song. Someone told me it was Journey, "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)".... so I went straight to the CD rack, picked up the greatest hits, and set myself on the thrill ride of a lifetime.

i only saw perry once,, in 1978,, i was 11 .. my friends and i were into
Van Halen , and they were on the tour.. (we were also into Angel, Kiss,
and the Godz ehehehehehe),, the promoter gave me
a blue infinity tour shirt, it had clouds on it.. it wasnt until 1980's capture
record that i "really got it", then i was hooked..

to answer your question though,, how did i get into journey?,, for the

I was a fan of some of the songs from Infinity, Departure and Evolution. I really liked the duets with Rolie and Perry. I had never been to a rock concert in my life, and some friends were going to the Journey/Loverboy concert and I thought what the heck.

I had a gorgeous date and a great dinner. Perry and the gang put on one hell of a great show. It was very similar to the Houston DVD of course, as those two shows were one night apart. I still consider that night as one of the best nights of my life. Everything was perfect.

After that, I couldn't stop listening to Journey. Went to the '83 concert with Journey/Bryan Adams. It wasn't as good because they had put all the songs on hyperspeed to help Perry get through it vocally. That was the last Journey concert I saw until last year. I saw JSS front Journey who was shockingly opening for Def Leppard.

I had kind of gotten away from Journey for a good while, they were not putting out music that I cared to listen to. But one day last spring, a friend of mine brought the Vegas DVD in to work and we watched it, and I was hooked all over again. I filled my ipod with their music and bought tickets to the concert in July. I am still listening now and although I'm greatly pissed at a couple of the band members, I just can't make myself stop listening. Their music has been with me for some of the best times in my life, and I think that has something to do with why I'm so attached to it. My wife says I'm obsessed. Screw her! j/k Deb, if you ever see this!

I was 34 in 1981 and had 3 children 2,9, & 13. I heard DSB on the radio and said to my husband" Who is that ? That is the voice of the century." I guess I heard the SamCooke style. I still feel the magic from 77-83 ,86 & 96, but I thought Jeff was the best thing since Perry and now I just don't care what they do.

id have to be honest,, i THOUGHT "natural thing" was a new song at the time,, it even scored some radio time here,, so for me,, the box set gave me a new song,, well plus the 2 none vocal tunes,, loved that set,,

Ahh yes..I remember that 'phase'. I have been listening to them on and off for 25 years. Thanks to an older brother who turned me on them. I think the first record I heard was "Captured", when I was 5 years old. Saw them one year later with my family, this was the Frontier's tour. Saw them on ROR tour too. Saw them twice with Augieri (with REO and Styx), and then most recently during the season of "Tapegate".

1984 my dad pulled into the driveway. through the windshield in a ames bag, he held up the journey escape album. purchased for my uncles b-day. that vinyl played around the clock. a month ago looking back at pictures from 85-86 i'm holding my new born brother with a journey frontiers painters cap on that i had just won at the local carnival. can't imagine a day without the music.

I liked the stuff from the Escape album, but it wasn't until my best friend had me listen to Frontiers that I was completely floored. I started collecting the older albums and was hooked.

2001, when I was 12 - after seeing their Behind the Music, 6 years ago this summer.
I didn't get 'into' them, it was when I 'discovered' them. Basically I just got the greatest hits, listened, and liked.

I got INTO them July 30th, 2006 after seeing them live for the first time (while they were on tour with my favorite band) with a fucking brilliant singer named Jeff Scott Soto.

(Of course now interest is officially demolished. The casual pool is always warm and ready )
