Don't kill me, but I have NO problem with Butterfly OR BELIEVE!

Yeah, I know, I just lost my membership to the cool club. I'll be out on the flag pole hanging by my underwear... :(

I actually think that they did a lot of stuff with Butterfly that they hadn't done before. Different chord structures, lots of cool acoustic guitar work. Believe reminds me of The Beatles "I've Got a Feeling" which is another favorite tune.

Shit, I have to hide, Deeno and his goons will be looking to wack me now!

SACRILEGE!!

;)
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

that whole butterfly argument was weak to me,, yea its not a great song,,
its not a terrible song either,,
but bands have leaders and hire producers to make the call on what
goes on an album...
members write 20 songs plus lots of unfinished
pieces and bring them to the recording studio,, someitmes you write a
song and think its good,, but it sucks ,, thats why the producer is paid,, cull
out the weak songs and replace them with songs that the writer didnt even know had a chance,,
neal was off with soul sirkus,, he didnt care,, the producer didnt care to
make a well produced album , nor did he care to make it the best journey
album ever,,,
some of the drums are weak sounding,, ross' vocals are unintellible,, ect ect...
... butterfly could have been a B-side track ,,

I like the music in Butterfly....But the vocals are a bit weak. The whole time I was listening to it, I was thinking of it sounding like a SEAL song. I always thought SA voice was too weak to be in Journey.....well, let me modify that. Arrival was a great CD....but Red13, and Generations - I'll pass.

Ok...put 'em up. Who's gonna flame me, or tell me to go back to BT? C'mon, you know you want to.....

Hmm. I think Seal's a good singer, and yeah, the song is a bit like Seal. I think Augeri's voice was great for Journey and have nothing but good to say about him, tapegate aside. I DO think that the vocal track for Butterfly could've been reworked a little bit, but it doesn't kill the track for me.

I am not sure what the criteria is for underrated, so I will stick to non-singles that rarely gets played at concerts? (ie. Escape gets played at every concert but never was a single, I believe.)

Infinity: La Do Da
Evolution: Sweet and Simple
Departure: I'm Cryin'
Escape: Lay it Down (Perry hits some sick notes that would make my voice crack like a 13 year old boy if I even tried)
Frontiers: Frontiers
Raised on Radio: Raised On Radio
Trial By Fire: Castles Burning (Aside from the last minute of the song where it gets kind of annoying and repetitive. If they cut that out, this would be one of the best)
Arrival: Signs of Life (First Augeri song I decided to randomly listened to, and I loved it)
Generations: Never Too Late (The bonus track is probably the best song on the album)
"They won't take me. They won't break me"
"Still they ride, on wheels of fire. They rule the night"

I think most here shun "Butterfly (She Flies Alone)" simply because of the title. It must not be "manly" enough.

I really like that song and "Believe" as well.

Agreed.
Drop the main part of the title of B (SFA) and make the paranthasese part the title and you have a song called She Flies Alone, and ergo far less of a sitting duck for mockery. I remain a fan of that and Believe and to piggyback off Brywool's KTYLM point, though I don't like ballads that may be the best performance Augeri ever gave on a ballad. Unbelievable vocal.

Far and away, it's either "Of a Lifetime" or "Look Into the Future."

The fact that they're not even mentioned among the most underrated songs, when less than 15% of most Journey fans know about them, is enough to make them massively underrated.

Those two songs especially, and anything off the first three albums.

Those two songs are sprawling, epic, grandiose prog-rock masterpieces.... I LOVE them.

OH-- and "One More." GOD, that song kicks some big meaty ass. And "Troubled Child." AND "Winds of March." Okay, I'm getting hot and bothered.

I won't say who it was, but someone said they hoped your ass got sunburned.

I hope you had a good time bro.

I like the way RJ45 set the post up, so I'm going to borrow it... (Hope you don't mind!) I, too, am not sure of what constitutes underrated. The song Escape, as previously mentioned, not a single, but people loved it live. Does that make it underrated? Who knows?! Anyway, here's my list:

Infinity: Winds of March
Evolution: Sweet and Simple
Departure: I'm Cryin'
Escape: Escape and Mother, Father
Frontiers: Frontiers and Rubicon
Raised on Radio: Happy to Give and It Could've Been You
Time 3: Liberty
Trial By Fire: Easy to Fall and TBF
Arrival: Pick one... Higher Place, To Be Alive Again, and Kiss Me Softly
Remember Me could've done well with better placement in "Armageddon". Don't really have any pics off Red 13 or Generations.

Very interesting topic.
