That's very true AR. And I admire the guy for trying to inject some energy into this band. But even he has to accept that a creative and forward-looking Journey was nothing but a fantasy....

Well, Winds of Freedom wasn't quite the creative renaissance we were all expecting - but yes it least I hadn't heard it a million times before.

They just probably couldn't be bothered anymore. Let's face it...Journey's recording career has been in decline since 1983. From the moment the sales figures for Frontiers came in they knew it would be downhill all the way.

I can kind of understand why they feel it's too much hassle trying to reviltalize the recording career a quarter of a century later when sales figures have plummetted from 9 million to whatever miniscule quantities Generations sold.

Shame they can't just do it for the love of it though....and bung out a few tracks for us saddo die-hards on the internet or something.

Im guessing all this ITunes hype is due to the Finalé of the Sopranos which is more than understandable.
However if you haven't got a credible band to go and tour on the back of new found interest, this firework will soon burn out.

At the end of the day i guess they will be hoping to tour with a Perry 'lookie-likey' and enough people to come to their gigs who either don't know the history of the Singer Saga's or don't care about it.

Sadly IF and i do mean IF they go down the route many people on here expect them to they may continue to rake in reasonable $$ with a strange nostalgia tour but i feel they will have lost all credibility with true fans and the rest of the music industry.

I may be stating the obvious but thats how i see it.

Except DSB has had a number of revivals already...the Laguna Beach revival...the Monster revival...the World Series revival. Plus Journey's back catalogue just keeps on selling. One of only a handful of 'evergreen' catalogues in the history of rock music. So I'm sure there'll be other fireworks...just not with 21st century line-ups of the band.

I was looking forward to a NEW sound with a NEW singer who was not Perry or one of his many clones. I was hoping for something fresh. Yes I was hoping for all that too - and the watered down version of Journey didn't excite me either. But...I'm always pleased to see that the original recordings are still finding a big audience.

I wish I could get excited, but I can't. Had JSS still been at the helm, I would've guessed that they were building-up their legacy (by licensing the use of the song in 'The Sopranos') while getting ready to record new music, tour, and tackle new frontiers with a new lead singer and a new attitude.

But by shit-canning JSS the day after 'The Sopranos', it became a total wash: a nice surprise and a lot of positive press cancelled-out by one particular piece of depressing (and still confusing) news.

It's therefore a zero ...... a big fat 0. I had always said that 'The Sopranos' would be a great venue for a Journey song being front-and-center (and, I know, Wheel in the Sky was used previously), but I still can't believe how fortuitous the use of this song was, and how unbelievably wasteful the band's response has been.
