Though I must confess, it must be tough living under a microscope 24/7 where everything you do or say is getting scrutinized by so many people. Given THAT, you do do owe your fans, because as a fellow poster noted, the fans are the ones putting you up in the 5-Star Hotel you can traipse through dissing them on your way out the door.

Though from the story above, it looks like Ross knows whose buttering the bread! I've always heard he was a nice guy.

Ross was hilarious the one time I met him. We were in the lobby, which was a marble lobby in this particular hotel (Boy I felt out of place!!), and had huge NO SMOKING signs everyone. He was standing AT THE FRONT DESK all but chain smoking, offering some of us cigs. as well. Answered any and all questions ask to him, including a couple about Perry.

About that elevator story, these guys are just human. I have had the chance to hang out with celebrities. Not all of them can be Mary Poppins nice nice 24/7.

I've never liked FrigaCain. He's always come across as a little condescending to me.

You can't deny the songs though, Sherrie. He deserves at least some love for that opening keyboard riff on DSB alone....

Wasn't the Frigmeister in that massive school fire in Chicago back in the day? I remember hearing about that. He lost a lot of classmates before his eyes.

so he claims, can anyone confirm it? Because he seems very opportunistic to me. You know, anything for the whoa is me, in him.

He hasn't transformed in any way. Going from being a dick when he joined the band, to remaining a dick to fans and so called friends, isn't a transformation. It's called staying the same.

I was fortunate enough to get backstage and was able to speak with him for a few minutes. Our conversation was, of course, regarding music. My daughter plays several instruments, one of which is the piano. He was more than kind enough to answer a few questions I had. At no point in time was he stand-offish, rude or made me feel as though I was of no importance.

Though our discussion was brief, he was very kind.

You must've had a pair of tits...

Trust me, this M-O is very common in this band...Friga, Fro...I'd be willing to bet that Face and Fidel do it too. You show up at a M&G with something to sign, they'll treat you like gold, so long as you've got a pair...and I'm not talking man-boobs.

If you're swinging meat, they'll treat you like shit!

My storys about how much a true douchebag Neal is are well documented both here and at TJF. Unless you're got something that benefits Neal, he'll treat you like shit. If you're lucky enough to not *see* the treatment, you probably walked away fast enough to not hear the snide comments he made in your direction as you walked away....or like I said, you had a pair of tits....

You just don't hang out with an asshole that huge without actually taking on some of the same qualities. Fro's douche-ness has probably rubbed off on all of them...I'm just shocked it took this long for Friga to actually start oozing it like a motherfucker.

But I also agree, Herbie saw it within minutes of picking him up...the story about Friga refusing to go an inch further until additional demands were met just screams of total cocksucker!

WOW!! Good post bro. I think Neal is so accustomed to the rock star life that he thinks that's the way he is supposed to behave. He knows nothing else, he's been doing it his whole adult and part of his teen aged life.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Just to give my experience - I've met Jon 3 times and he's always been very nice. I had a pretty long convo with him last year in Sacramento, but I waited until after the show at the advice of CJ. Maybe it's just because I'm a chick, like strangegrey says. lol

Neal has not been especially nice to me, though, any of the times I've met him.

Friga has always been polite towards me. Neal is just not a very bright individual. If he couldn't play guitar, I'm quite convinced you'd see him at your local McDonald's drive thru handing you a greasy bag of substandard food.

Out of respect, I waited till he got near me, and took about two steps towards him, when he looked at me and said "what do you want?"

That sounds rough, Jrnysc. What a nightmare. I had the same experience with a soccer hero of mine. Best to keep a distance from people who you look up to but don't actually know, isn't it?

I don't know Shaggy my Partner has met Jeff Scott Soto, and he said he was as nice as can be. Where my sister lives there are a few celebrities lving near by, and not one of them has ever been strange, nasty, moody or 'having an off day' they have all been really nice whenver we have chanced to bump into them. :)
I think it depends on how much of a prima donna the person is :)
I do think that was a raw deal that you got there jrnysync, at the end of the day if it wasn't for the fans, like I have already said they wouldn't have the lifestyle they do.

Oh man, If I had the time, I could write a book. Here's the main one that still sticks in my craw....

It was 1992. I was 20 years old. Since the mid 80s (when I started playing guitar) I had literally prayed to both EVH and Neal Schon. Hell, I spent the summer of 89 learning every Journey song note for note..I didn't leave the house...barely did anything other than play guitar......and by around 1992, I was starting to sound a whole lot more like Neal than Eddie. But I was still a snot nosed 20 year old that IDOLIZED Schon to no end.

Hardline comes through Long Island that summer and I went to see em. I got there like 4 hours early, knowing it was GA and I wanted to be right in front of Neal and watch his every fingering and foot stomp on his pedalboard. I round the corner and bump into a nice woman in her 30s with a huge set of cones, who just met Neal (and was gushing about how nice a gentlemen he was) after his soundcheck. I start talking to her and she offers to take a picture of Neal and I and mail me the picture...so she directs me to the end of the bar where Neal is drinking.

I muster up as much brass as I could (remember, I'm 20 years old, shaking in my boots at the very concept of meeting my idol....) and I sheepishly walk over to neal, who's got 2-3 women giving him some attention...and he's being VERY receptive to them, taking pictures, signing shit, smiling. So I said to myself, "hey, he seems to be a nice guy!"...

I go up to him and say "Hey, Neal! I'm a guitarist and I've been a huge fan of yours as long as I've been playing guitar!" He rolls his eyes...I then say "Can I get a picture with you?"...

He throws up his arms like he was just served with a summons...turns around to me, points his finger at my nose and almost screams at me "Hey, dipshit...I'm drinking here...Leave me the fuck alone...go away!"....shocked beyond belief, I do just that...and walk away, feeling .2" tall. As I'm walking away, a few other fans (all women, in their 30s, fine looking) go up to him and ask for a picture and autographs. He goes "Ooooh Suuuuure, Anything for my fans!!!" and smiles this big chesire cat grin for their pictures.

Had he done that to me at my current age, I would have verbally ripped him a new asshole, barely restraining myself from physically stomping his 5'2" ass into the side of the bar and walked out. I was 20, in the shadow of one of my idols and in a situation I clearly didn't foresee. I mean, shit...this guy was God to me. To see him react to me the way he did would be the same as if a Muslim, on the day of resurection, learned that Allah only lets Christians and Jews into paradise!

Incidentally, I had the SAME exact situation with Brad Gillis a few years later...after a Night Ranger show, I went to him, told him I've been guitarist and a fan for years and would love a picture" Before I could get another word out, he's asking me what kind of gear I have, how long have I been playing, imparting advice on how to play, smiling...and then, after he and I were seemingly best friends, he took 3-4 great pictures with me. Kelly Keagy was the same way that night. A complete opposite from the utter douchebag Neal Schon was.

I hadn't seen Schonbag for almost 10 years...I met him in 2001 during the Arrival Tour...I doubt he remembered me.....but when he learned that I was working with Mike on the Journey website, he treated me like fucking royalty. (what a 2-faced fuckhole!!!) He introduced me to Friga, was about as warm and gracious as you could get. It was bitter sweet. Knowing full well that if I just introduced myself as a fan, he would have treated me like a piece of dogshit he just picked off his boot.

Later that night, I witnessed Neal do EXACTLY the same asshole things to other fans at the M&G. If they had tits, he was sweet as pie...If they were guys, *especially* younger guy fans...he treated them like crap. PURE crap. Refusing to shake hands, telling them to get out of his way, telling them he doesn't 'do pictures' even though he gladly smiled for pictures with women before AND after them in line, making faces and gestures at guy fans as they were leaving with their backs turned, etc, etc.

In fact, that day in 2001 was VERY strange indeed. I got to basically see the band from soundcheck to post show. I watched the road crew do their thing...all from the side of the stage. I got to see alot of 'true colors'...and that day was officially the beginning of the end of my Journey fan days. I don't AT ALL hold the same reverence I did for them when I was 16. After seeing Fro treat these guys...all guitar playing guys in their 20s, like complete crap....It made me sick to my stomach.

I had something like 200 pictures from that day....all great digital shots, of Fros gear, gut shots of the whale, extreme closeups of the band at soundcheck, etc, etc....I was going to do an online thingie for the website. I was so sickened from Neal's 2-face bullshit that I ended up hosing every picture from the camera.....

Neal's a complete douchebag. He always was, always will be. It's VERY hard once you see how much of a prick he really is...to listen to Journey without feeling ALOT less of the magic.

Up until seeing them again in 2001, I was chalking off the 92 meeting to bad timing. I assumed that Neal was just having a bad day and like any guy out there, sometimes bad days are made better when you get to put your arms around a few women that are 10-15 years younger than you. I have him the benefit of the doubt. But seeing the same thing happen to other guys in 01, made it clear to me that it wasn't just a bad day...that the guy is a true asshole, a selfish egotisitcal asshole that only cares about himself...and doesn't give 2 shits about his fans unless they're helping him write his 5 alimony checks.

If anyone followed the progression of leadership/site maintenance back those days, you'll notice that I increasingly detatched myself from website after 2001...

He's still my favorite guitarist but the more I hear about his personality, the more I want to puke. As a younger guy, I probably would've done the same thing, i.e., sheepishly walked away. However, being older and infinitely more stubborn and much less likely to put up with that kind of BS, I probably would've coldcocked his ass. It might've earned be a decent beating from his bodyguard but it would've been worth it.

I can tell you with much certainty, Strangegrey, that Jon Cain had no chance in hell to stare at, ponder, peak or glare at my (what you so-called) "tits". I was wearing a baggy Journey shirt and a baseball cap because I wasn't suppose to be backstage in the first place.

Go ahead, keep trashing the guys...I could care less. But don't make my experience meaningless because you have a 'hard on" about what happened to JDoubleS. And before ANYONE shoots back with a nasty remark, Jeff knows I am a fan of his... I have had the pleasure of exchanging a couple of pm's with him. So don't even go there.....

What suck thing to happen at such a young age. Especially when this could have been the biggest day of your young life. That must have been unreal to go through.
As we get older, we sure wish that we could advise the young to not get caught up in 'idolizing.
Again, WOW, you spent all that time practicing and then waiting for that moment..wow!
Very cool that you didn't let that moment f you up.
I've been able to take opportunities to meet someone I wanted to thanks for effecting my life and turn it into a unique situation. Sometimes you are amazed and sometimes you are floored. You either find out, wow/cool, they are what they speak, or you are like, shit, how could I ever let what they created affect my life. Why did I ever expect something from them.

My MO these days is to very cautiously meet these guys...whether it's EVH or Tiger Woods or Brad Paisley or Jennifer Garner or whatever....whatever celebrity I might want to meet will probably NOT live up to my expectations...so why even tempt fate. If they're famous, there's a good chance they're assholes anyway.

It just so happens that Neal Schon is a doubly huge asshole....a true motherfucker with zero interest in anyone but Neal Schon. proceed cautiously when meeting the prick, he might just ruin Journey for you. God knows, he did that for me!

Saint John wrote:I'll give you guys the condensed story about what an asshole he is. I get Meet and Greet passes. My buddy is getting TBF signed by Friga. He turns and yells "Hey Neal." He points to Perry on the back of the CD and starts ragging "Look at me, I'm standing by myself. I always have to be alone. Look, I'm looking the other way." There was more, too. That's not it verbatum, but you get the general idea. I was stunned. He turned our Meet and Greet into a nightmare. Schon stood there laughing.

I was about to change the avatar until I read that (and the other story someone posted about the Frig ^).
What are they, 8 years old and name-calling on a playground? What a prick.
To do that while you're signing the thing in FRONT OF fans? That's fucking low.

In all honesty, your avatar needs to stay up for a real long time. The problem is that these guys DONT catch enough flak from their fans. They pull crap like this recent JSS issue, because they get away with it...No one ever holds them responsible for their actions!

Now, I'm sure some will say "come on, frank...do you think they really care what a bunch of MR posters think?" I'll say this...they might *outwardly* not care...and Friga, that mamas boy douchenozzle, might even get away with a snide 'get a life' comment. But the fact of the matter, and I can say this with some level of certainty, is that they very much do care how they are represented online. Neal has been DESPERATE to shut down Back Talk for years. He reads this shit....and does care how he's perceived. Some may think he doesn't care because of the 5 purple shirts he had made, just to spite the BTers that bitched about the choice of shirt...But I gaurantee something more serious, like whether or not he's a real smoking assmunch to his fans...he DOES care about....and we need to call him out on this stuff.

Journey's days are numbered...I'm a firm believer of that. If they don't entice The Nose out of retirement....they're as good as dead, no matter whether or not it's Chalfant, Jeremey or the bum on 5th avenue and 37th that keeps begging for my spare change....

That's a shame considering how they treat their fans. I've heard more negative stories than positive ones.
I don't remember meeting Neal as well as I should - I was only 10 - but he certainly wasn't the friendliest soul.
You'd think he'd be cool to a 10 year old little kid.

And the Frig comes off bad in every story I've heard, read or been told (except that one story that was just posted hear).
Frig - if you ever get a Tampax soaked in V8 flung at you on stage, you'll know where it came from. I'd buy a ticket for that - would be worth it. I'll even use Tampax PEARL.

Well, I do have limits. I'm a lady.
A lady uses V8 for Tampax bombs.
