thanks for the figures.their back catalog is very strong but i don't see them ever going even gold again unless they get perry back.with another singer 100,000 copies is about how much they'll sell.add in downloading and other industry issues today and even a perry album would struggle to go platinum.

Sheesh. Even if you include the compilations (which I don't since they're repetitive) that doesn't come near "65 million units that are out there." That damn Frig. (man, I'll use any excuse to be mad at that arrogant pusswad, won't I?)

What Deano posted above is US sales only listed by the RIAA, bluejean... (not counting
overseas sales, etc...)

Mike-

Gold and Platinum are a thing of the past for most vintage acts. Viacom & Radio has seen to it in the last 10-15 years
that older acts are pushed aside and new releases by long term rock artists are fortunate to sell between 75,000 and 150,000 copies. Without major radio and major video outlet support, sales are word of mouth, internet, and touring. Aside from a few older acts who managed to stay commercially hot with record sales worldwide (U2, Jovi,etc...), those gold and platinum sales are a rariety for new releases in North America.

Sad isn't it ?

In a REAL industry based on common sense, past performance, and longtime sales, these vintage acts would/should get first crack at radio ads and MTV/VH1 primere's...instead of being cast aside like yesterday's news.

It's like I said in another thread... some of these classic rock acts paid the bills for Viacom (VH1/MTV, etc) and radio for the last 25 years or so... strange how they treat these bands just because they are older and not "trendy". Radio and video turns their back on them now...but they still tour yearly on packages and play to 10,000 in a shed ! (What's wrong with this picture ?)

It often forces these older bands to come up with a strategy and focus on where the dollars are- to aquire their nitch. And it seems to be where Azoff and the boys had their heads (besides up their ass) at when they shot themselves in the foot...and stabbed JSS & the diehards in the back.

Trust me when I say the music industry can be a lot like a 'tiger eating it's cubs'....

WTF?? I used to work for an AOR radio back in the day. We had a subscription to Billboard and I clearly remember TBF showing figures of 1M after the fourth week of its release... :?

Okay... he's a creep...

Never cared for him. (I got to know his brother pretty well for about 5-6 years too... he tours with Bolton.
He seems like a decent guy.) Spent enough time around Jon from '87 to '00 to see him as an arrogant ass.
Most folks who spent time/worked around JC when he was touring with Bolton, The Babys, Bad English, and Journey will tell
you what they think of him... and little of that will be good, IMO.

He doesn't have much of a backbone either. I remember when he came into a friends guitar shop while on tour
with Bad English and he purchased a Gibson that he 'ohhhed and ahhhed' over for an hour or so and tried to talk them
down in price... only to return with the guitar about 2-3 hours later to ask for his money back. And I quote: "Neal said I
shouldn't spend that kind of money on that right now and it's just not needed." Appears "Dad" laid down the law to "Mom"... LOL

Does any of that work for ya ? LOL :P

it is sad that they throw away these platinum acts like yesterdays news now just to focus on some teen lip synching group with belly tattoos and myspace page.

Yep...it's nauseating. The 'wheels' have no loyalty to the vintage acts (because most of the suits are too young
to remember or care), and they take the easy route by promoting a package based on looks over substance...
easy promotion today.

Don't get me wrong...ole Britney was fun to look at 3-4 years back ( )... but do we really need to see these mediocre
pop talents have this meteoric rise and fall. Give me a talented vintage commercial rock band anyday over mindless fluff.

Allowing that to thrive in music is like marrying the hot cheerleader...and finding out she got a 4 on her IQ test... (you want to
kill her after about 10 minutes...)

I posted some statistics I found for Journey's worldwide sales sometime ago. The updated total was 92 million. Also, Frontiers, according to this list, was the leading album, having moved 23 million units worldwide.

RII figures are only updated on request - it's called a "recert" - and each request costs money - used to be approx $800.oo - so if no one such as a label or management gives enough of a damn to request and pay for each title - figures are never accurate.

2 points-

65 million as Mrs cain said, was worldwide sales.

TBF comes in at 1 million. It was shipped 1 million, and never really sold that much.
