I'm gonna get flamed for this just as much as you did, but I happen to agree with you. I think JSS sang the GH album very well. He's got a great voice, far better that Augeri's, and I never needed a vocalist to be a Perry sound a like to enjoy the melodies and soaring feeling from the songs in their catalogue. The singer just needs to have sophisticated chords capable of doing the songs justice (John West comes to mind, he could have pulled it off very well).
My thoughts were and always will be about new material.
I'm not the kind of fan who's satisfied with going to see a greatest hits tour year after year. I want new material from my favorite musicians. I want 'the Journey' to continue.
With that in mind, I never thought Neal and JSS had chemistry. Both are accomplished and talented musicians, but they mix musically like oil and water. JSS simply wasn't the guy. That being said, I think the way Neal and Jon went about this was crappy and hypocritical. If they had any misgivings about JSS as the permanent lead singer of Journey, they shouldn't have offered it to him in the first place.
I wish Jeff all the best and look forward to what he puts out on his own and I hope Neal and Jon find a singer who can originate material worthy of the band's name.
