Since Mr. Perry is 1/6 of the band, would he go for it?

I believe he's not 1/6 anymore.

Do you think Neal, Jon & Ross bought him out? That would have to had to cost some mega $$$$$..

I dont know for sure. It was something Dean said & Andrew sorta kinda didnt disagree w/. U know how that stuff goes.
scarygirl wrote:So if that's the case, would it too big of stretch to say maybe that's why Steve will no longer perform those songs? I think u or someone else had mentioned somthing about him possibly not being allowed by Neal and Jon. Besides of course, obvious vocal limitations.
JR (Susie) wrote:Um somewhere in one of those interviews about the sopranos, Steve said that they all had to agree for a song to be performed--of course that's for a TV show. I believe Jeff said something similar when he talked about AI, something about the proper permissions. I assume if Perry wanted to go on tour singing Journey or go on any TV/radio show, he would have to get their consent to do so. But to be honest, I don't know much about this aspect. Maybe our radio girl would be able to clarify.

Ok,Suz,I know you were reffering to another radio girl![]()

However,a song is also owned (the recording of it) by the record company.Usually, permission has to be obtained from the label too.
Not sure if Journey and Sony (Columbia) are legally involved at this time, but perhaps they're not anymore and now the songs belong to the composers(SP,NC,JC).
I may be wrong on this one,tho...Anyway,this is how it works when a song gets in a TV show/series/soundtrack.
What works for Journey works for Perry too, meaning that if Journey are allowed to sing the songs on tour,so is SP.
No way that wouldv'e costed way more then they would want to shell out!If The Sopranos had to get his OK for dsb then there's no way in hell they bought him out!Crazie Scarab wrote:JR (Susie) wrote:Crazie Scarab wrote:Are they willing to get so close to Steve Perry's sound that people will actually accuse them of using tapes... IIRC he said no legal ties since 98. Which means he NEVER was a 6th member, right?
What about the manager, aka Herbie? Didnt he say somewhere he had some control over the music of other bands he managed & how they were used (i.e., Mr. Big, Roxette)? Could he also have control over Journey music to some degree?

Ah right. Good point. U are not just a pretty face there lady
Thanks Laura. Ur the best.

I can't remember Herbie saying that, but maybe I missed reading it.Can you remember the interview?

He mentioned having some kind of right/control in the catalogs during the McCarty interview.
