An Article in the Cincinnati Enguirer Sunday- Huge Venues are Vanishing .Live Nation is selling large venues around the nation. Seems only Baby Boomer Bands can fill them. Maybe that is because the 70-80's groups could play live, write the music and had some top singers. There is nothing spectacular in the 90's for sure. They also mention as they build an outdoor venue for 4,100 they can't count on how long the 50-60 yrs old band members will want to continue.

that you listen too is no good",, "just give DixieLand a try and see if i dont like it better,," i
dont want to be that old guy, when kids say,, "aint you got no (c)rap i can kick it ta?" ,, but
i am!.......... i tell them there music is from the devil right before i turn the water hose on them!!

I'm 21 and I'm already that old man. Every generation is certain that subsequent generations are going to hell in a musical handbasket. But seriously.... there are some good bands today, but the commercial success is had by no-talents, sell-outs, and prepackaged consumer filler.

Lar-I can just picture you with the water hose! LOL! Good luck with that.... BRG - I am afraid you are right about the current music situation. There is probably good music out there, but the masses will only listen to and buy what TPTB tell them to.

Yeah, I posted a few months ago about how Starwood in Nashville has closed down this summer, and the shed in Noblesville (owned by the same folks, I believe) is closing up after this sason. This really sucks. I never particularly liked those outdoor venues, but they were great for those summertime tours.

I suppose some fucker will build more McMansions on the sites, cause lord KNOWS we need more 8,000 sq ft houses in this country!

Yup. Germain Amphitheatre (aka Polaris Amphitheatre) outside Columbus will be closing too. It's 20,000-seater. The Columbus Dispatch did a story about it earlier this year. There were only 14 or so concerts there in the last year -- something ridiculous like that. Total waste of real estate for an empty venue .....

(It's where I saw Journey in 2001 on the 'Arrival' tour. More or less a full house at that concert.)

Last year Live Nation bought out many many of the larger venues ......

Then they bought out HOB

Seminole Tribe bought out Hard Rock so they will not be selling soon.

This year Irving has been buying out/merging with Live Nation -
which suits his cadre of artists perfectly - so now he sells off the larger venues.....
nobody can fill them anymore

Irving also has ILAA - and one of his companies is playing dueling lawyers with Ticketmaster

My money says that Irving ends up owning the Holy Trinity:

Venues (large, medium and small as a result of his Live Nation business )
Tickers (ILAA and one other source such as Ticketmaster [or similarly structured])
Artists

He can keep Journey on their feet touring as long as they can find someone to sing.

All that throwaway, disposable trash kids listen to today.

No wonder bands love to tour Europe. That's where the REAL fans are. America doesn't know music.

You have to have a 10-12 band festival to any of them to play here. And thats sad.

Will I ever see the bands I want to see? Lana Lane, Pretty Maids, Harem Scarem, Emerald Rain, Gotthard, Wig Wam, TNT, House Of Shakira, Ayreon, and Enchant.

Instead, I've got the music of Coldplay, Scissor Sisters, Spice Girls, Fiddy Cent, Nelly, Nelly Furtado, Fantasia, and Fiona Apple shoved down my throat.

And whomever said that ticket prices will go up....you are absolutely correct. Less seats - owners still trying to maximize revenue. What a shame.

Why hasn't anybody got those 10-12 melodic acts together for a tour of the US of A? I'd pay $600-$700 for a 3-day festival of 12 bands.

If people will gather for has been bands like Poison, Ratt, Winger, L.A. Guns, and Slaughter, I'm sure they'd gather for bands like the ones I've stated earlier.

Thank you Calbear94 for posting the article. As far as young persons attending, Neal has made ref that so many were in the audience. That is true. I saw it, it was an evenly mixed crowd. But most have caught on that Perry is gone and really DefLepard was the main draw last summer and the opener. It was fabulous with Jeff and then the big dump. So, how many sessions would it take to figure that out ? Maybe we could get group rates if the band would attend.

Cause those "has beens" had decent followings back in the day. I don't doubt the quality of the bands you mentioned, but unfortunately, a tour headlined by those guys wouldn't make a cent in the US. It is frustrating to me too. One of my favorite bands from back int e day was Angel CIty (or THE ANGELS as the Ozzie's know 'em) Kick ass band that every hard rock act loved and respected -Great WHite did at least two of their tunes (Face the Day and Can't Shake it) and G and R used to openly adore these guys as well. But in the US? They played to half empty clubs. I think you're right- the Euros and the Ozzies have MUCH better taste in hard rockl and melodic rock than we US of A folk (people on this board excepted)
