I'll second that.AR wrote:To everyone connected with the band. Thanks for flushing it all down the toilet. The fun, the get togethers, the hope for new material, and a final escape from the huge shadow Mr. Perry has created.
You had a chance to break away. Van Halen did it with Sammy, and this was your chance. Instead you all blew it. The crowds would have still been there, you could have still played the dirty dozen and lined your pockets each summer. But you also could have had credibility as artists with new material and a slightly new direction. Most importantly, you would have had credibility with the fans, but I guess we don't matter do we?
No offense to who may be the next in the growing line of lead singers who you trash. The one potential choice is a great guy and hugely talented. You already had exactly who you needed though.
I hope there are more Brian May's out there who call you all out for your cowardly actions.

If the general fan who don't know what the hell's going on gets this shoved in their little paw, first reaction would probably be. They're giving their new music away free???? Might as well play free shows at the park also.

THAT'S why mine had scratches on it. Friga was probably behind you, stopped, picked it up and had Azoff re-package it. Which I'm sure put a huge smile on Azoff's face.

How does Journey control the above? The 'hope' for new matierial was a false hope. It was never going to happen. If people would stop and think for a moment, they would see that Journey has been saying one thing and doing another for years now. Journey will ALWAYS be under "Perry's Shadow"...JSS would not have changed that. The 'get togethers' is up to YOU to do, not just Journey. You had a chance to break away. Van Halen did it with Sammy, and this was your chance.
No, it wasn't. VH did it with Sammy at the PEAK of their career...not more then 20yrs past it. If Perry would have been replaced after Frontiers, THEN it would have been comparable. But, of course, most people here would be arguing AGAINST such a change 25yrs ago.Instead you all blew it. The crowds would have still been there, you could have still played the dirty dozen and lined your pockets each summer.
So, they lose a few dozen online fans. Who really cares? They can still open for Def Leppard and claim a pay check. After all that has happened, do you REALLY think they care about those online who they say need to 'get a life'. They don't. They haven't for years. But you also could have had credibility as artists with new material and a slightly new direction. Most importantly, you would have had credibility with the fans, but I guess we don't matter do we?
Journey's 'credibility' was built a long time ago. They suffered through it, and partied through it, and lived through it. So, they don't want to go through it all again...the WORK along with the good things. Neither does Perry. Neither do most people who are 60yrs old, or close to it.I hope there are more Brian May's out there who call you all out for your cowardly actions.
LOL...Maybe Brian May should hire JSS for Queen. Perhaps that will work out better for everybody.

Monker,it is obvious that Journey as a band (along with the Mgmt.) ARE in control of all the things they do.They are the only ones responsible for the past, the present and the future. They have built up the past with hard work, had a good chance of revival in the present but they blew it all and jeopardized their future. It's that simple.
There WAS hope for new material. When JSS posted about working on new songs which would bring back the classic Journey vein,he wasn't lying.
That guy was always honest with the fans, you gotta give him that.Maybe the other Journey members are saying one thing and doing another, yep, but not JSS.
So what I am saying is that not only Jeff was thrown under the bus,but also the opportunity of a fresh Journey comeback.
I agree that this band will always be under Steve Perry's shadow, but the JSS formula was a huge chance to prove that they could be relevant again,as much as the current music industry situation allows it.No one expected a revival of the 80-83 era magnitude, but chances were good for them to reach a new peak.
You had a chance to break away. Van Halen did it with Sammy, and this was your chance.

It doesn't matter WHEN it happens - a change of lead singers will always be a huge issue for any band at any time in their history.
Sammy was too good to be dissed. He managed to win over a lot of fans, although no one forgot DLR and many want him back desperately, even after decades since he's been gone.
The VH situation is a good comparison.JSS was Journey's Sammy,as Jeff would have been capable to bring back to life a dying band.
The proof is in what he has done during last year's tour.
I was in the audience and I saw the people's reaction. Those were NOT the Internet fans, you know?
Instead you all blew it. The crowds would have still been there, you could have still played the dirty dozen and lined your pockets each summer.

Unfortunately,I have to agree with this.I said it before, our online debates will not change the situation too much. The casual fan who has no idea about all the details will buy the concert ticket next year and maybe even an album. We cannot talk about a real boycott that would affect Journey's future touring or CD sales.
However, the media outlets are negatively commenting on the situation and THAT will get to the casual fan.No one can predict the long term effects of these comments, but they may work.
But you also could have had credibility as artists with new material and a slightly new direction. Most importantly, you would have had credibility with the fans, but I guess we don't matter do we?

They should have guarded that credibility after SP left, but obviously they have failed, especially in the last couple years.
Steve Perry was the only one who knew exactly how to remain credible and how to gain people's respect. It has nothing to do with age,it's all about class and intelligence.I hope there are more Brian May's out there who call you all out for your cowardly actions.

I'm sure Brian May would be much smarter than Neal Schon.
