At the time, I would've argued that someone complaining about Augeri had to see the band live to judge his singing and I would've been totally wrong.

That's an excellent point Dave. Well said.

I didnt realize quite how bad Augeri was until I listened to the boots. A boot totally sold me on Jeff, but it wasnt until I saw him live again (I discount the 1st time as it was his 3rd day) that I realized how powerful his stage presence was.

After reading all the responses on this thread, I must say I'm glad to have chosen to be part of a JOURNEY Tribute Band.
The passion you all have at least equals, if not goes far beyond what my band mates and I in LIGHTS have for this music.

Journey in my opinion have some of the most enjoyable songs ever written.

Thanks to all of you for making them THAT MUCH BETTER.

The live concert tape of him with with Yngwie "J" Malmsteen in 1985 is well worth stalking. I also have a Massey Hall bootleg from the same era that is astounding. He started life as a metal vocalist and he was amazing. Then he started up Talisman and was into this Europe/AOR thing of his and he was amazing there too. Soul SirkUS was a dream come true - a favorite vocalist teamed up with another talented guitarist...

Oh, as we talk about tribute vocalists... why not Kelly Clarkson with a bottle of Chavis Regal?

How about Journey just let what was be what it was and move on to new horizons, individually. It worked, to an extent with Steve Augeri. That fell through.

JSS was never given the chance and Steve Perry isn't coming back. Neal, sorry to say, but you fucked up there.

Neal... it's time to retire the name Journey. I say this with a broken heart. Trust me on that. That's where I'm at now and I don't expect it to ever change. I cannot put myself through any more BS, regarding Journey. There's been way too much drama already.

Also, Neal.. I can understand you're drive for money over real fans. I just don't agree with it. But, what do the fuck do I know? You're just the best guitarist on the planet.

I am nothing other than a few more bucks in your pocket.

Take care,
Brian

Wow! That guy is good, has the inflections down. But the fact still remains that although some may come close to mimicking Perry, an exact clone will never exist and there will always be something that is lacking. The spirit of soul that Perry put into the music cannot be duplicated and that is what is missing in whoever tries to mimick him, someones soul cannot be replicated. This is a fact that Fro and Friga need to come to terms with. They need to quit looking for a copy and go talk to the original, if not then they need to let go of the past and move on to something new. They had a start in the right direction with Jeff, someone who could sing the old as well as create something new with his own brand of soulfullness. In all due respect to Jeremey, who I think is very gifted, the band will now only be a shadow of what was. Fro and Friga need to stop chasing shadows and give up the ghost. Either go for it in a new direction or hang up the gloves. It will be sad to watch a former champion still in the ring without what it takes to stay in the game, just slowly and painfully fading away. Thats why Perry will never be back...he gets it. He gave up the ghost and preserved his legacy where he left off,,,at (or near enough) the top of his game. He knows that you dont overstay your welcome and to always leave 'em wanting more.

I want Perry to sing as well..And I freaking love JSS. That man is the greatest rock vocalist in service today.... But it seams that Neal and Co have to think about the "legacy". Im sure that Jeremy will do a fantastic job for the guys, and hopefully he will be blessed to provide for his family and future out of this opportunity.

wow there is alot going on i this thread ,,,,,, what i can say for me playing bass in EVOLUTION is that alot of people that want to be brought back in time ...... the band didn't start it's show like that in the beginning, we just molded into what our fans wanted. everyone in this band has paided there dues we have all had record deals, toured , done the bar thing . we want at thi point to step it up and go bigger venues .. we are putting a full production show together with video and lights .... it will be hands down a great show... like i have seen here it looks like some members here will not like that type of show,, it is our goal to put on the closest journey concert .. i take it as a challange, it make it harder to do .... i am not here to get into the whole hugo thing or any other singer.. i know of all the other tribute bands and there are some good ones out there, , it is very cool to see some good ones popping up since all of this journey stuff happened.... so lets all out there and do our thing and support the journey that we loved ........

That guy has as strong a voice as any in this poll and probably sounds more like Perry than any of them.

I have yet to cast a vote and I'm not popular enough atm to make the list myself, but even so... IF Journey is looking for someone with a voice as close to Perry's as possible... they need to contact JASON KELTY...

Of course, I have never heard him live... but I think, based on the recording I heard, that he is the best impressionist I've heard so far...

Doesn't sound like his born again personality would go over very well in Journey.

With the exception of Hugo, some very strong contenders here. That Kelty guy sounds freakishly like Perry, holy cow! But I'll put my money on Jeremey, because not only is he phenomenal on vocals, but has demonstrated the ability to come up with new MR tunes that are good enough to be Journey.

Hugo has come up with more journey type songs than any of the others, i think all of these guys are talented and Kelty is spot on the closest by far(of course its only 1 song,i would love to hear more from him), it probably comes down to what journey wants from their next singer, they seem to have several options at the moment.

I don't know about that, you'd have to show me. But don't bother because no matter how good of a song he can write his voice sucks and he sounds more like he tries to mock Perry than imitating him.

Nope, different guy! If you look at all of these Tribute bands, there might be 2 or 3 at any given time using the same name! He was a very skinny (Perry looking) younger guy.
