Neal and Randy do a very good job on this song.

However, the very thought of Michael Bolton covering ANYTHING by Otis Redding makes my hair stand on end.

And the sound of his over-sung whine ........

Sorry, I do not mean to offend any Bolton fans out there.

However, once you have heard Otis Live at the Olympia (Paris) life is never the same.

I know what you mean. However, it has been reported that Otis' widow was played Bolton's version of the song. After hearing it, she wrote him a letter stating that it was the closest to Otis' version she'd ever heard. Bolton's is not the original, but definitely a respecatable version.

I like a few of his songs but KISS should be embarrassed that they ever allowed him to write a song for them.

He fronted Journey for one night while Perry sat in the audience and watched. Can't remember the event.

It was the Bammies.

Every year Perry won the Best Vocalist spot ..... until he asked to be disqualified so others could win.

Perry/Journey had split by the time this event rolled around.

It may be tough to believe but MANY people HATE SP's voice for exactly the same reason. Next to SP and MB nobody does nails on a chalkboard better!

I'm a big fan of both singers and for me they BOTH have moments that make me cringe.

I've been in music and around musicians for my whole life, and I've only heard a few people say this. You're nuts. I've met quite a number of people (diminishing over the years as he garner more respect) who don't like JOURNEY, but hardly anyone who isn't, to this day, blown away by Steve.

Heaven forbid someone say anything about SP except praise for the almighty.

I have two ears that work pretty good. I've known LOTS of people - typical people like myself - who do NOT care for SP's "irritating, thin, and whiny voice".

I guess everyone is entitled to their own experiences and just because mine don't align with yours doesn't make me nuts any more than yours not lining up with mine makes you nuts. And if you can follow that line of logic then you may very well be nuts.

My point was that BOTH MB and SP share similar qualities. Personally, I thought MB would've been an excellent replacement for SP because of their similarities.

And if you don't think was ever shrill then you really haven't heard him. How about After The Fall off the GH Live album? How about that last note? Good lord it is unbearable. There was a reason why they rarely played that song live.

With all due respect, I don't find any similarities in Bolton and Perry. I think Bolton sounds like someone trying to pass a kidney stone. His voice is forced and raspy. Perry on the other hand while having a high nasal voice, was brilliant, clean, smooth and natural. Geddy Lee irritates me at times, Perry never has.
