sound board!! i think that took big guts and and forgiveness on augeri's side!! remember the board lit up
huge that day.. and jeff responded , saying that he talked with augeri and hes doing good.. ...

I've heard from some sources that Augeri still thought he was getting his job back & Jeff was just temporary at that point. He was just waiting for the docs to clear him. Another source said the band/management was not returning his calls & that was his only avenue to contact them by showing up at a show. Who knows what the truth is?

1-Cain never truly wanted JSS in and finally gave NS an ultimatim--me or him--and I"m not signing away the name like SP did.
Maybe Cain even thought it was a good decision until this spring with something changing his mind by spring.

2-As I've speculated in a previous thread, Assoff wanted the closest thing to Perry that could be found, threatened to book them in shitty venues otherwise. Even if they left Irv, he could still keep them out of the choice venues. The problem with this theory is that I don't think ticket sales would have changed with the singer, but maybe Irv wasn't sold on JSS.

Either would be something they'd be ashamed to give as a reason, therefore leaving JSS and fans without an explanation.

Seriously, I do think you are probably right on the money about Cain. He wasn't part of Soul Sirkus, so didn't have a vested interest in Jeff. He probably told Neal to get his boy on a leash. I've heard that Neal had spoke to Jeff about how this band isn't Van Halen. I'm wondering if that was done because of insistence from Cain. I've always thought Neal would have loved to rock up Journey a little more, and that Jeff was perfect for what he wanted. It's got to be Friga. Azoff too. Azoff is going to do whatever it takes to maximize profits from that band. If it's hire someone that sings the songs like Perry, then that's what he's gonna do. There was no allegiance to the man that saved the '06 tour, and saved the band a ton of cash. I'm sure they paid, or are going to pay Jeff a nice severance, as it should be, but how they handled the whole situation was incredibly spineless and lame. I don't give two shits if Neal wasn't that involved with the decision making, he should have told Jeff to his face. He may have taken the attitude that "Hey, if you're going to fire the best frontman we've had since Perry, then you tell him." I'd like to think that anyway.

They won't have to worry about venues anylonger...They are a carnival/fair band and the local theatre will house them when they roll into towns with 50,000 people. Their days in "choice venues" are history.

My guess would be that it was something like this. I don't think it was necessarily an outright ultimatum though. I think Cain was probably chipping away at the relationship between Neal and Jeff the whole time, finally managed to drive a wedge between them and then suggested that he just couldn't work with Jeff and maybe some other arrangements would have to be made. I think, as happy and excited as Neal was with Jeff's performance in the band, if Jon had hit him with an ultimatum cold without laying the necessary manipulative groundwork, Neal would have said adios to Jon rather than Jeff.

True --not the band they were in the 80's. thank goodness. that power ballad stuff was corporate. Jeff was taking them where they belong and where they sound best ---ROCKIN"!!! you can't tell me that DOA, Chain Reaction, and Edge of the Blade are much better songs than Open Arms, Faithfully, etc. well. you can but I won't listen. hehe

It was more Journey-like with Jeff than ROR. go back to the first 3 albums if you want the true-to Journey sound. rockin--no whining. I know I know-the ballads get airplay and pay the bills. not any more, however......

I don't get wound up often but this is my 2 cents. Journey is ROR to the masses I suppose but not to me. That band lives LIVE and ROCKIN'.
