Are You Emotionally Attached To Your Music Memorabilia ?

I own an extensive collection of rock and roll magazines (Metal Edge, Circus, Hit Parader, Mettalix, Bop, Rock Beat, Rip, etc), in pristine condition, circa 1988-1994. I also own music programs, autographs, ticket stubs, etc. Question, did you guys keep your stuff from your teenage years or throw or give it away? Did you Sell it? If you got rid of it or sold it, do you miss it? If you still have it and someone offered you good money for it, money you could use, would you sell it... or would the memory of that special time in your life override your need for money?

Well, I didn't think I was that much. But I have that two sided Journey poster where they are sitting in the audience watching themselves on stage and sipping Budweiser. I can't find it anywhere and I am beside myself about it. So I guess my answer would be yes.

I used to buy Hit Parader, Circus, etc. but did not keep them. I didn't think of them as collector's items. I do have trouble parting with my LPs, tho. I never play them, but will never get rid of them.

Yes and no. I parted with some tour books from shows I went to in the mid-early '90s. My Journey stuff - would never part with - it has been collected over many, many years. Plus, the stuff's not going for what it used to on ebay.... :twisted:

I recently sold a July, 1984 issue of Circus magazine for $25.00. There really is no telling what people will buy, but it seems if "Steve Perry" is in the eBay listing title, you'll have several who wind up bidding. I'll never part with my LP's - too many great memories there! Magazines, backstage passes, guitar picks - they've all gone on the auction block.

Wow, I wish I had kept them. I do still have all of my comic books. :lol:

Do you ever go on eBay and check out what they might be bringing, NIG? Years ago my brother had a massive collection of comic books (early Marvel and such). When he left home to enlist in the Navy, our mother decided to clean out the basement and threw them all away. My brother has never quite forgiven her for that!

Yeah, I checked, and they don't seem to be selling for as much as I thought. Probably just gonna pass them down to my boy.

I have all my ticket stubs from every concert I've been to since 1978. That was my first and it was Queen.

I have a shitload of KISS memorabilia and some Def Leppard stuff. I used to have quite a collection of Journey magazines, posters, pins, silk wall hangings, etc., but I really don't know what happened to it. LOL I don't remember bringing the stuff with me when I moved to Florida, so I'm thinking when my mom and stepdad moved here, somehow it got lost. :cry:

I do still have my Journey albums though.

Sassie, I feel you pain. Back in the early 80's or maybe late 70's I recall going with my dad to the store. When we came out, he had a case of bud weiser, and I had a free Journey poster. I don't recall which tour. Anyone know? I just remember having it on my wall. What happened to it is anybody's guess. :cry:

I absolutely have a sentimental attachment to all of my Journey stuff. Regardless of how I feel about the band today, the memorabilia represents some wonderful events that brought me a lot of joy. If I needed the money to feed my family or keep my house, I would sell it all in a heartbeat. If I didn't need the money, I wouldn't sell any of it!

I too have all my ticket stubs from every concert I've been too. I have countless tour books, drumsticks and picks that I doubt I'd ever part with. I have a lot of the posters that used to be the wallpaper for my bedroom in high school and some magazines, concert t shirts, etc.

The only Journey items I'd never part with are my banner and my guitar (signed by classic line up), and my Robin Flans book (signed by Smitty).

I've other items from other bands that I won't part with. The magazines are nice, but meh.. could technically care less about them.

I have MOST of my ticket stubs...except for the ones that count. Lost 'em in a move from Beaumont Tx to Bethlehem Pa. I KNEW that was a move we shouldn't have made. :lol:

My main pieces of musical memorabilia are both Dennis DeYoung things. Saw him in '02 and he came out in the lobby and signed my CD. This girl next to me was going insane saying "Oh my God..you're Dennis...I love you...Oh My God...I'm meeting Dennis". Him and I looked at eachother with a "this chick didn't take her pills today" kind of look. So I kinda broke it off saying "Hey Dennis...just wanted to say thanks for the music and now..well...the autograph".
A week later after I got back to Texas I got a package in the mail. Turns out that my sister didn't think I was going to be able to meet him and she had friends at the venue so she got them to send me an autographed poster. So that was a nice suprise. Good show..autographs...meeting a guy who wrote a few of my all time favorite songs...all in all...GREAT trip. :-)

I figure anything that I've saved that anyone would want to offer me money for is something that meant enough to me to keep in the first place, so the answer is no.

I don't have a lot that's autographed, but absolutely I would never part with those things.
I have a trade show badge from NAMM in 1986 that Eddie Van Halen signed for me.

And I have a tourbook signed by John Entwistle of The Who (sadly, someone else met him and got it for me - I didn't get to meet the best bassist EVER

). I have a tourbook signed by Howard Jones too, but... well that I might part with. :lol:

In a perfect world there will be some kind of event with all the Journey members like the WOF, only this time Gregg and Smith will come, and I can get my early vinyls signed, but... hey look a pig just flew by...

I have a big collection on The Who - bootleg vids and out of print books, a copy of The Kids Are Alright on vinyl still with the book that came with it... those are things I wouldn't give up.

You should see the shit Lula and I have.

Autographed photos, posters, drumheads, etc etc. I am torn because I hate fucking Journey now, and Lula isn't too fond of them either, but it is hard to let go. We just donated about 15 Journey T shirts to Goodwill. She has a lot of cool shit.

i had every hit parader and circus from 1983-1993 when due to a lack of interest in grunge and alternative i quit buying the magazines.my first issue of hit parader in 1983 had angus young on the cover.my first circus mag was the issue 'def leppard rock america' in 1983.....will you please kick my ass for getting rid of them.i would kill to have those back.

i also had a kiss collection with all the albums,tour books,jigsaw puzzles,bubblegum cards,etc.i developed a cocaine habit in 1997 and sold about 20,000 dollars in memorabilia for 500 bucks.i regret that too.
