I'm intrigued by the dichotomy with which the board for the most part views both perry and Cain in this context.

The bedrock principle for Double H's stance that Cain was always pondscum was that he leveraged his situation to help his wife Tane out and get her a gig. He's pondscum.

perry leverages his situation with the band when he didn't want to tour and they did to basically do the same thing. Benefit his own cause.

He's just "smart" and a "good businessman."

Better than Escape? I seriously doubt that....

If we believe what Herbie said about Friga, he was pondscum long before he achieved fame.

According to Herbie they were all pondscum....

The way I read ur posts, I wouldn't be surprised if u regularly choke the chicken looking at pix of him while listening to Faithfully. It's the way u come across in ur hero worship.

You're sounding about 14 years old right now, Susie. You might want to look at that.

I just don't see Matt's refusal to incinerate Cain as hero worship?

Rox, sp leveraged it into an evergreen paycheck every time they play a live note without him.

WOF,
I agree with you about JSS- one of the biggest reasons that I was psyched about him joining the band was his songwriting ability. He and Neal wrote some great tunes for Soul Sirkus, and I was expecting some great stuff if/when they recorded again. That opportunity is gone now- the only singer that I can think of that could potentially bring writing ability to the table would be Kevin Chalfant.

Oh good grief...we're not giving the guy shit for sometjhing he did 26 years ago are we?

I blame the pushy porn star anyway. I bet Cain was well out of his depth in that relationship.

Hard to gauge Matthew. We've all listened to ESC4P3 a bazillion times over & it was a HUGE hit. I have in my collection some incredible albums that never saw the light of day that I've listened to many many times. If I played them for u right now, u might not think they equal ESC4P3 at first listen. But they would grow on u after many auditions. I would say a few that I have equal ESC4P3 in terms of the songs. Believe it or not.

Another opportunity for me to plug Shy's album, Sunset and Vine. It sits between E5C4P3 and Frontiers in my Journey collection.

Well everyone is STILL blaming Perry for not touring 11 years ago. Obviously the past NEVER dies here on MR.

By all accounts, Perry has been a really good guy to everyone who met him or worked w/him in recent years. Friga on the other hand... Well he hasn't changed much in 26 years.

I have a sneaking suspicion he didn't tour then for the same reasons he isn't now. I think he knew his voice couldn't handle it. It couldn't handle it in '86, so I'm sure 10 years of aging didn't make it any better. He may have used his hip as a way of getting out of it.

You're such a lukewarm Journey fan....shame on you....

For example, I listened to Shawn Pelata's album w/his band Line of Fire (Shawn is a member here) several times recently & I'm completely blown away by it as are many of my friends.

Same here! Especially that song "Faith In Fire" - we played it alot on holiday recently.

they have a shitload of talent that I'd put right up against Friga's.

Oh no...you're talking crap again....

Your point is?

Well, if you're looking to Herbie for moral guidance on the subject then the entire band is worthy of your disapproval....and you therefore ought to be removing every Journey record from your collection of squeaky-clean, 'nice' artists.

I like being 42 & acting 14 actually so thanks for the compliment. :-)

My pleasure. :)

I'll agree w/that hands down. Yet another brilliant piece of work that for no apparent reason wasn't a giant hit. Thank u for introducing me to that Niggy. I play it ALL the time.

Your welcome, Susie. I first signed up here just to post about that CD. And the rest is history. :o

I have no idea. Tony Mills is the singer on that album. He is now the singer for TNT, unfortunately.

I disagree about 86. I've listened to the boots & he was amazing. He was also amazing in 94/95. I attended 2 of those shows & I have several boots. I can't speak for his voice after that tho. He sounded great w/David Pack whenever that was recorded, but that's studio, not tour.

He might have been amazing to you and me, but he wasn't amazing to himself. In '86 he couldn't hit notes that he used to hit, and he was using many work-arounds to sing a lot of the songs. He was even using work-arounds in '83. In '94 he was tuned down. And you have read where he stands on song integrity. I'm pretty sure that has a lot to do with why we don't see him. Somewhere I read that the '86 tour was cut short, as was the tour in '94.

They are a band from Norway. I have heard about them before but I don't think I've ever actually heard their music.

Shy, however, I've never heard of.

NIG - say what you like about the direction Journey took in '86 - but Perry's vocals were still undeniably amazing. You're just too proud and stubborn to admit it aren't you?

No. He was amazing until Frontiers. Then he was just excellent. :)
