Hey that's ur opinion. While I love ESC4P3 & I know most people ONLY became Journey fans after that album, I love what Rolie brought to the table. Friga made the music more commercially acceptable w/his syrupy ballads. But Departure, Evolution, Infinity...they do it for me ALL the time.

Syrupy ballads? They existed BEFORE Cain arrived also. For example "Stay Awhile" and "Good Morning Girl", for example (both of which I like, by the way).

They did but neither Stay Awhile or GMG are examples of that..those are utter class through and through.

What everyone seems to miss is what he did on FTLOSM in Missing You & You Better Wait. He did some really different stuff vocally there & it's sheer brilliance. I heard them live & they were totally amazing.

I have a boot from one of the FTLOSM shows where he does an a-cappella lead-in to "Missing You". It goes something like "Don't be so hard on yourself. Those tears are for someone else...My baby, etc., etc." He sounds awesome there.

EXACTLY. If you like the music enough it's possible to forgive a musician anything....

Also - aside from the bitter ramblings of the ex-manager and a few anecdotes from fans about rudeness at meet and greets - is there any real evidence that Cain isn't ultimately a good guy? Or is it just your 'vibes' telling you he isn't?

NIG - say what you like about the direction Journey took in '86 - but Perry's vocals were still undeniably amazing. You're just too proud and stubborn to admit it aren't you?

No. He was amazing until Frontiers. Then he was just excellent.

Now? Who the fuck knows.

I think some people only like the younger Perry voice. I love that too. But the mature Perry voice blows my mind too. I'd call them both equally amazing.

I like all eras of his voice, but to me, he was amazing until the rasp set in. I keep wanting to clear my throat when I hear that.

Since I know u like to argue, I'll probably be wasting my time w/this. But to me, those are slow songs from a rock band. I mean even Judas Priest had a slow song or two on their albums. They were a different kind of ballad than we got once Friga started writing. BTW, u forgot Patiently

Those weren't commercial hits tho were they? Ask a casual fan if they ever even heard of those songs & u will get a very blank look.

So what? What's with all this chat suddenly about casual fans? I'm talking about the music Cain co-wrote and the myth that all he brought to the band was syrup and commercialisation.

I'm not being silly at all. I'd stack some of their songs right up there w/classic Journey. But we already know u & I have different tastes. For example, Air Supply gives me the creeps & u love them.

All Out of Love is a great song. It can't be denied.

I listen to them all the time. I'd disagree about them being heavier, sorry.

They ARE heavier and easily so. That is not an opinion. Whether they are better albums or not is a matter of opinion, but they most certainly rock harder than the previous three with Rolie.
