OT: More on Vick - the NFL has spoken

Postby CatEyes » Fri Jul 20, 2007 6:27 am

and I am disgusted:

After a meeting involving NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and the Falcons, the league will let Vick keep playing, the Associated Press reported. The AP reported that a person with knowledge of the meeting, who requested anonymity so the case would not be influenced, said the NFL would stick to that position for the foreseeable future, despite its new personal-conduct policy

Yeah, he'll continue to get paid. But if he has to be in court Tues-Fri. There's no way he can run the new or old offense. He probably won't even dress for the games to avoid the circus atmosphere. I think the Falcons will just have to go with ole Joey Ballgame!

Well, at least he has lost a ton of money on any future endorsement deals. In addition, he has been dropped by several already. THAT makes me happy.

Weren't some of these other guys suspended BEFORE they were convicted of anything? If so, there's no reason Vick shouldn't be sitting his ass on the couch at home, munching on Doritos and watching "When Animals Attack".

It is a federal felony to fight dogs. Maybe the NFL thinks this is small, but federal prosecutors won't. When the NFL feels a backlash, they will act. Kinda sounds like our lowly rated Congress.

Some airline has dropped him, and Nike has put a hold on releasing a "Michael Vick" shoe. They will probably drop him when this all settles.

Let's not get out of hand and call him a murderer. I mean I hit a squirrel on the way home from work the other day. I know what he did was terrible, and could mean he has no value for life. But as far as we know he's never killed a person. He should be facing serious jail time and a long ejection from the league.

Interesting view of the value of life. Torturing and killing animals is okay because they aren't people? He most certainly is a murderer.

That is correct; you did say it was terrible....it just didn't fit your definition of murder. It surly fits mine.

It is too painful to even watch this stuff on the news. I can not imagine a human being enjoying that kind of thing. I heard on the news that he is just one of a bunch of NFL people that do this. So it might just be the beginning of this. It's horrible and in my opinion he is a murderer. They absense of heart, soul and humanity is shocking and indeed scary. And the fact that they have decided to let him play is shocking. I hope when he does play that some of those guys will knock his head off. I'm sorry to say that but that is just how I feel about this. Thanks for the link steveforever I will difinitely do that!

It's beyond disgusting that this fool is allowed to play in the upcoming season. Do you think he would be allowed to play if he were involved in taking human lives instead of the lives of animals?? The NFL really needs to take a harsher attitude when dealing with players who behave badly, but then I guess if they did that there would be alot of MIAs on too many teams resulting in huge monetary losses for the organization, and really, why should players like Vick feel bad about doing things like this when they know that the worst that might happen is probation, fines, and a litle time off the field. I love football, but I won't be watching any of Vick's games this season, or any season for that matter.

I live in Virginia and I'm surrounded by people who think any athlete who plays for VT or VA should be excused of anything if they can play football or basketball. I honestly don't think many of them would even want to see them arrested for murder if it would interfere with the season.

Exactly. If the NFL/Falcons allowed it, the fans wouldn't.
Every damn time I try and avoid hearing exactly what they did to abuse/kill the animals, I seem to hear more. Flat out sickening. No questioning that period. Sick.
The dog fighting seems mild compared to what they did to the dogs.
This makes me ill..period.

Bingo. I cannot imagine someone enjoying doing what I keep seeing he had done. I just keep shaking my head wondering am I really reading what I am seeing he did to these animals.
My wife hates spiders. She is petrified of them and we don't even like to kill them.
I just cannot wrap my head around the fact that someone did these things, let alone someone I watched playing my favorite sport.

As big of a fan as I am of VA Tech, this is a disgrace! I am always wanting our "local" boys to do well in sports and in life in general, but stuff like this is just a kick in the rear end! I have always had dogs as pets, and believe me, they are just as much part of the family as what everybody else is. I can't imagine doing this stuff to animals like this. They don't deserve it. After all, dogs are man's best friend!
