Deep down I think Journey were being fake and morally suspect when they recorded and toured without Perry. They blew whatever credibility and authenticity they had left in 1998.

It's not mind boggling, it really isn't. They fired a guy that finished a tour...big deal. They changed their minds and decided to do something else. Other than the way Jeff was fired, I don't see all of the fuss. Jeff has been in the business a long time. He's a good singer who has had a fairly nice career in the industry. However, the histrionics around here would lead you to believe that they fired Steve Perry or Elvis Presley. They fired a journeyman singer who gave the band what they needed, someone to finish a tour. After what transpired with TapeGate we all realized that these guys could be very dishonest. Jeff knew this, took his chances and had a nice run. Though he was tossed aside like a cigarette butt, he gained FAR more than he lost. He'll move on and so will Journey. Both will be fine.

I think ur missing the point Dan. What is mind boggling is the TIMING. Just when they had everything on the table & could have ridden the publicity wave. That's what we find so startling. (Don't go thinking I'm mean again b/c I said this, ok?)

Naw, I have NOTHING to ever hide, so I rarely ever go to PM. There is definitely a divisive effect happening here and the other place, and frankly, I don't feel the need to really elaborate or to fix it. You rub me the wrong way, you think it's humourous, and that's cool. There was a time when friendships, speaking for myself, were pretty tight, but now, to me anyways, are just slipping away, and that's unfortunate. You and I will just have to agree to avoid each other here. I basically don't go over to the Annex anymore for obvious reasons, but it does sadden me that once strong friendships, which originated because of Ed and myself, ie, the Baltimore Party, have eroded and are basically toast now. What are you talking about Dean? I've never been to the Journey Annex. I've heard of it, and I know that Barry gets on there, but I've never even laid eyes on it! It is mindboggling,honestly...You know,I thought about everything that happened now that things have cooled down a bit and I'm confused.These guys have been in the industry for a long time,they surely know how things work,at least they have learned something from others if not by themselves.
I cannot call them "stupid",although their latest decision seems to fit that description.However...it must be something that escapes us.Really.

Like you said...Everything was working perfectly.A succesful tour,raving reviews,excited fans,amazing publicity with the Sopranos,a year off - plenty of time to work on something new,the ideas were on the table,they were officially together for this ride...than Boom.
Who in their right minds would throw all this out the window?

In a way,this whole situation reminded me of Brad Delp's suicide.Why choose to die when in a few months you get married,start a new life,have a huge tour ahead of you...?
