Great live version from 1993....not sure about his attempt to look 'grunge' though....

OMG.Thank you so much for finding this,Matthew!
I had no idea there was a video of this song...why do I call it "song"?It's Whitesnake/Coverdale's masterpiece.I listen to that album very often, another favorite is "Too Many Tears".However I always return to DFA...What an inspired way to open an album.

Laura - I've only recently discovered Restless Heart and it's such a great album isn't it? Yes - "Too Many Tears" is brilliant. As is "Can't Go On". In fact I'd say it's their best album since Slide It In - and it really shows how underrated the Coverdale/Vandenberg creative relationship is.

People like Dave always dismiss Vandenberg is a "pretty boy" - but I think it's most unfair.

Dave - you have twice said in this thread that John Sykes was fired and replaced with a bunch of pretty boys....

But it's really not an issue. Honest.

Yes, that's the way it was portrayed. I remember Coverdale saying something about his mother telling him that he wasn't going to get as many girls since he had other good looking guys in the band, or something to that effect. In other words, when I made those comments, that was how I saw it portrayed in the media, not how I felt about the guys in the group as musicians.

Anyway, I've never commented on Vandenberg's guitar playing. He is very good.

I love the opening track of this album...what's it called again, Dave?

That's put me in the mood for this all-time classic...my favourite Dokken tune...

It's Not Love - Dokken

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5bweZNXvzY

The opening track is "Kiss of Death". Dokken was at their best on this and the previous album, "Under Lock and Key". The previous two albums before that, "Tooth and Nail" and "Breaking the Chains" were okay but Don Dokken's vocals were really emotionless on those, in my opinion. He sounded okay, but it sounded like he was holding back. He got it right starting with ULAK & BFTA.

Here's another quote from Coverdale in the late 1980s when the whole 'pretty' thing was clearly getting him down.... :)

"It got louder and louder, and so did I, to the point now where I have to get dressed up as a "girly man" and tease one's questionable hair and it's all getting a bit ... boring."

Yes - that's exactly my memory of Dokken too, Dave. I'm going to download "Under Lock and Key" And "Back For The Attack" today....I haven't listened to them all the way through since the days of vinyl....
