I want to see him with Journey again, but I don't think this sounds as good overall to what Journey puts on during their shows....

Thos boots from the FTLOSM tour were recorded in Oct or Nov of 1994. I was at both Beacon shows...great nights, both of them!

I'd pay to hear him sing anything, don't care what key, don't care at all.

Man, he was rockin' the hair back then huh?

The '94 show was like a blur. It was like I was in shock. I took about 30 other people and they actually got into his show. The next time I will know to take flowers. People would just walk down to the stage and hand them to him. After the show his bus was surrounded at the back of the building . I think we would be happy just to have a show anywhere & put on DVD.

I don't think the thread pertains to Perry rejoining the remnants of Journey. I take it to be about Perry doing his own thing again.
Would I want to see it? Hell yes. Would it be better anything Journey could put together now? Hell yes.
Ii'd like to see him rip every last fan from what's left of the current band. I think he could do that, nomatter what he sang.

That clip, by the way, is MAGNIFICENT. The dude has a stage presence that's incredible, with a voice to match.

I think Deano means that he wants SP to come back without Journey and with his own touring band, stealing Journey's (former?) fans away from them and making them his own once again.

But I doubt it that he will sound anywhere near as good now as he does on the vids. so my answer is still no! :)

Like I always said, "There was a Steve Perry before Journey, and there is a Steve Perry after Journey"

I will always support Steve Perry's music with or without Journey.

But if everything is detuned or rephrased doesn't sound right, absolutely not. I've seen enough over the past few years (the past year alone - Styx, DDY, the Police, Genesis) where in some cases, the singers altered phrases to get the song delivered. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't (good example "Don't Stand So Close To Me"). In other cases, keys are lowered. Again, in some cases it works ("Circumstances"), and in others, not ("Mama" - it lost the power).

It's a tough call here. As much as I think people want to see Perry back, would you want to see it if he's a shadow of his former self live?

I think it's comments like this that keep him from doing it.

Personally, I think he could do whatever he wants w/his songs, or completely IGNORE the Journey songs altogether, use his lower register for everything, he'd still be fantastic. It's NOT about the high notes, it's the WAY he sings. Seeing him on stage twice was the highlight of my life. I want more.

BTW, are u saying DDY can't hit the highs anymore? I listened to his new album last week. Altho the music isnt exactly my taste, I was blown away by how good his voice is.

You are so right Suz. Perry is far from being a former shadow of himself. Of course he isn't going to sound like he did in the late 70's. Which is great, I actually preferred his voice Frontiers and forward (best vocals on ROR) over the earlier higher range. It is more in how he laid it out and sang it than in what range. My expectations are a lot more realistic. I'd take Perry at 60% over whats out there now at 100%.

True,Susie. This constant technical analysis on SP's present vocal shape can be a reason for him to feel under pressure.
If he needs to lower the songs,I'm sure he would do that the right way and no one would be bothered by the sound. He's a musician, for God sakes,he would know what and how to sing!

I have to LOL tho...When SP is going to sing again,I bet the naysayers will be the first ones to buy the song/cd/musical phonebook/or whatever he decides to release.

Wholeheartedly agree on this too: It's NOT about the high notes, it's the WAY he sings. He is the best.

I agree with ya Deb... There aren't too many of the new singers out today that I can say "Wow, that really gets to me" the way Perry did. (Or Augeri or DEFINITELY Soto for that matter...)

True Michelle, I think thats why I dig JSS too. It isn't about the range, it's the soulful way in which it is sung. Uptempo or ballad. Love both of these performances of the same song. In my opinion both these men ooze soul and showmanship.

I'd buy a ticket to see him walk out on stage, wipe his ass, and scream like a wildebeest. Cause it's the closest I'll ever get to seeing him live. Don't care how he sounds now. Its the nostalgia of it all.

I'm right there with you on the walking on the stage, and even the screaming like a wildebeast - but I could probably do without the ass wiping.
