I was lucky enough to see Boston twice with Delp. Great singer.

One of my biggest musical regrets is not getting to a Boston show. Damn it.

I got to see them in 2003. Delp was very gracious and humble, introdocing Fran Cosmo as "the guy who hits all the high notes I can't hit anymore".

From all accounts, Boston's live sound wasn't all that fantastic early on but they'd certainly got it right by the time I saw them in 2003. Of course, they had up to 5 guitarists onstage at a time to recreate that famous "army of guitars" classic Boston guitar sound.

I used to have a Strat and a Tom Scholz Rockman, unbelievable what that little box could do. I will always love his guitar sound.

The solo in "Hitch a Ride", which also my favorite Boston tune, is one of the most beautiful, melodic guitar solos of all time. Simply awesome.

Well, I've got an '88 HM Strat and a little gadget that's similar to a Rockman. I wish I'd have gotten a standard Strat at the time but oh well...

I bought a cheap Strat just to see if I would pick it up enough to learn. Nope. Now I only have an acoustic that I got at a pawn shop that sits in the closet. I get too frustrated, my fingers get sore and I just put it down. I'm hopeless.

I actually played a good bit for a couple of years or so in the early 90s, enough to learn a few riffs..."Smokin'" by Boston, "Smoke on the Water", "Rock You Like a Hurricane", "Somebody Get Me a Doctor" by VH, etc. Nothing too awfully complicated. I rarely pick it up anymore, though.

It usually takes something to inspire me to pick it up. I used to have a room mate that would play every day for a couple of hours. He was great. He's the one that kind of got me into it. He could play Eruption almost to a tee.

My brother plays all the time. In fact, he often leads worship at his church. He's a pretty decent player.

For starters, I never even said Perry said that. I said Perry appreciated Jeff's talent in response to u saying I was wrong in stating that. But u love to twist my words, don't u?

To recap...

I said: "Even JSS admits that he isn't fit to carry Steve Perry's umbrella..."

You said: "I think Perry himself might say differently."

In other words, you felt that Perry would rate JSS as an equal more or less.

U can prove this was their plan how exactly?

Are you seriously asking me to prove that Journey were a commercially-minded band who were driven by a need to be successful?

Isnt there a story floating around that Friga wrote that song when he was w/The Babys & Jon Waite wouldn't touch it? His ex-wife's website says she was 21 when she released her self-titled album in 1982. If Friga wrote that song missing her while he was still w/The Babys (in 1980 or earlier), she was just a teenager. I'd say that would make him a pervert.

That song wasn't "Faithfully". It was "Open Arms".

So that means that Jonathan Cain isn't a "pervert" after all. Phew...

Or I just have better taste than u. I am proud of my collection & supremely proud to say it does NOT include ANY Air Supply or Barry Fagilow.

And nor - it seems friom your statement that JSS is second only to Steve Perry - does it include any records by Boston, Foreigner, Rainbow, Queen, Whitesnake, Bad Company, Led Zeppelin or indeed any rock band with a truly legendary and distinctive singer.

I've had TONS of gay hairdressers who have not only cut my hair but also highlighted & even lowlighted it for the perfect multi-tonal blonde effect I prefer. I like gay men working on my hair best. )

Thank you for sharing - but my point was actually that Cain is clearly wearing a LONG COAT in this photo and not a "hairdresser's smock".

Perhaps you'd care to post a photo of this "smock" of which you speak? Ideally with Jonathan Cain wearing it?

Admit it...Based on your overly obsessive need to discuss Matthew's supposed gayness, you're just projecting your own sexually repressed feelings on him, aren't you? Come on now, admit it.

Freudian projection wrote:"The externalisation of internal unconscious wishes, desires or emotions on to other people. So, for example, someone who feels subconsciously that they have a powerful latent homosexual drive may not acknowledge this consciously, but it may show in their readiness to suspect others of being homosexual."

JR (Susie) wrote: I said I think Perry might think differently about JSS not being fit to carry his umbrella. That is a long leap to being his equal.

Fair enough...

Yes. Herbie, who was their manager, said differently. So please, prove it.

Herbie Herbert said he and the band weren't interested in success or writing commercial records? Are you having a laugh?

Ok I had the song wrong. Still doesn't prove Friga isn't a pervert. Got any proof of that? Did u hear the TBF interviews & how he laughed at the sex w/animals bit? Does that float ur boat Matty? How about the arrival couch photo? Did that get u hot & bothered?

Susie - this incessent preoccupation with sex is not only a bit freakish and weird - but it's a thoroughly tedious debating and comedic strategy? Sure, use it now again - but almost every post you write features some sexual imaginings about Jonathan Cain.

Come on - vary it up a bit, eh?

So ur saying here that Jeff is not a legendary or distinctive singer?

I'm afraid so. By all means enjoy the guy's music and support his career but let's not lose all sense of perspective about this?

As I said above, it's a shame he's not a legend yet, but check back in 20 yrs & we'll see.

Well, people probably said that in 1987 too....

As for distinctive, I think he has a VERY distinctive voice. I would be able to pick it out in a chorus, same as I can pick out Perry's.

Or indeed any of those other singers trying to get into second place in your list of favourites - like Thingy Thingamijib from Led Zepellin and What's-his-face from Foreigner....

Because it's the same coat as he's wearing in this clip. Go to 02.27...and you'll see it...the very coat we've been talking about all this time...

http://youtube.com/watch?v=FP-yr6iWPMs

2. Since when are coats long or short? I thought short "coats" were called jackets?

Okay - let's cut the use of "long". It's a coat. Not a "smock".

3. That looks like a coat to u? I dread to think where u go shopping for coats.

Well...it has a collar...lapels...arms...buttons....am I missing something here?

4. I know this will be incomprehensible Matty, but some of us do NOT collect photos of Friga for a hobby. Some of us do not pin them on our walls. Some of us do not collect them in a book & take them to the bathroom w/us. I know mommy told u this was all acceptable but that was just to protect ur feelings.

And here she goes again....

All that being said, if u watch this video, u'll see it's a hairdresser's smock left open:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=C0PrCmaMSDg

That video is a montage, Susie. Which scene are you referring to?

Actually, he said:

"So, as long as we can keep doing mid-charters, I can promise you sold-out tours, and multi-platinum releases."

He also said:

"I'm a manager. At the point that Journey stopped in '83 they'd sold maybe 22 - 25 million records. Nothing to sneeze at, but nothing compared to the 75 million they've sold now. What I was able to do for them in death was more fantastic than in life."

Nice try but no, those are ur posts.

Show me one post where I have introduced a sexual reference to Jonathan Cain. Just one.

I'm not the only person who thinks this Matty. There are lots of people I wouldn't call legendary, but their fans would. Metallica, for example. I couldn't even name one of their songs or their band members.

No - but you surely know they have earned a legendary status for themselves - whether you like them or not.

Nasty!

Sorry - I didn't mean it to be. The guy desrves more success than he's had. I guess my point is that for JSS the old "he's got potential" rationale must be wearing thin by now...
