The second Ramos album is now the Ramos/Hugo album. Both this and the new Hardline album are waiting for the vocals to be finished. Hopefully we will know more soon. E

Thx for info, Eric.
I was kinda skeptical how would new Ramos album sound like with Don Chaffin who is heavy metal vocalist, after fine Mark Weitz on first Ramos album... but change to Hugo is very welcome... yeah, man... ;-)

Know maybe what's going on with Mark Weitz now? He had great voice on Josh's music...

I've never met Mark, but he was approached for this disc. As far as I know he's left the business. I've never met Don either, but we came to the same consensus.

Well, current line-up is the best, IMHO... can't wait to get Ramos/Hugo cd in my stereo... ;-)

Looking at Your site I've seen You have projects with three more-or-less Steve Perry-simmilar vocalists... Hugo, Tony Mills and Ted Poley... which one in Your opinion sounds closest to original Steve? :-)

Wow, great question. All three guys are great melodic rock singers who capture that classic vibe we all love! There are definitely some Perry-esque moments on these records (be it the vocal inflections, the harmonies or the phrasings) that make me smile. :)

Of the three you mention, Hugo's voice by nature the most similar to Perry's. Some feel it is not "exactly" like Perry's. Well duh, even if they cloned Steve Perry himself there would need to be the shared influences and experiences, etc. But each of these guys capture the elements of that magical time where you would go out at night wearing blue jeans and a rock t-shirt with the radio blasting and the singer's voice just soars. It's a feel-good vibe, and I'm thrilled to be working with each of these guys. And thankfully they seem to like what I'm doing as well. :D

One of my favorite Perry performances (at least right now) is from the FTLOSM tour in 94 where he sings I'll be Alright Without You/Cupid. If you haven't seen it yet, search for it on You Tube. It's the most purely Perry moment I've seen in awhile.

Well... I think I'm gonna have to buy those cd's when they're out... ;-)
China Blue with Tony Mills would be first out?

How would Ted Poley project sound? Is it more hair metal like Danger Danger, or more AOR like Melodica?

I have been having some issues with the China Blue release that are driving me a bit crazy right now...! The first to arrive will probably be the Ted Poley disc as it is 100% complete. As of Monday. lol I've never heard Melodic but it doesn't really sound anything like Danger Danger. I wish I could get away with posting some clips here! It is all straight ahead rockers with walls of harmonies, great guitar solos and keyboards everywhere. Ted says it's his favorite album that he has ever worked on, and at the moment I tend to agree. :D

Unless I can get the China Blue record out. Then that will be my favorite. : )

I'm dying for the Ramos/Hugo collaboration. My feeling is it will be his best work since his solo debut. I personally think Hugo is the only guy who knows how to originate new melodies and vocals which sound like a Perry fronted Journey. It's not just about the notes or inflections of a voice, but the melodies in the songs which get us to 'sing along'.

Eric,
Who's playing bass and drums on that album? And what's the reason for Hugo's delays on working on the project?

Dit-fucking-to here Yulog. I'm with you 100%. Hugo kicks ass, I just wished he'd do his own thing so I could go see them. He and Adam Holland kick ass. I'm still planning on going to friggin England in October if they don't do a show in the states.

Hugo is a good guy and a sweet soul. Everytime I speak with him I sense the sincere gratitude he has for his fans and peers alike - not the false modesty that others have been known to express. Hugo is working hard on this new record with Josh Ramos & myself, hopefully it will be out soon.

Maybe if some people could stop the criticizing and habitual name calling he might warm up to being on the boards. Someone told me last night this kind of talk is just "guy slang"...I can't imagine calling any artist a "fuck", a "poser", etc. without having had some interaction with the guy.

And I'm from Jersey, so I'm no stranger to shit talking.

For those who don't care for Hugo's work (or Augeri's or Jeremy's for that matter) then address their work. Calling names when you don't know somebody and they've done nothing to you just seems like schoolyard antics.

The realization that the next potential singer of Journey (if we're saying it's Jeremy) had not only imitated Perry but also had a multi-artist tribute show wasn't a huge plus for me...but I don't know Jeremy at all. He's out there making a living. Based on this alone, why would I ever call him an asshole?

(ducking under my asbestos blanket)

I'll be checking out the new music by Hugo (and you) - he's a talented singer & seems like a sweetheart too, from interviews I've read. :)

Jamie Browne is playing bass, he is the current bass player for Hardline. On drums is the amazing John Macaluso, who has played with Yngwie Malmsteen among others.

As for Hugo, he came into the project late and is writing lyrics and vocal melodies for each of the songs. Then there are the harmonies! To build an album like this takes time and care. I've worked with folks who just crank the songs out, and at times it shows. And after all the buzz this year (both good and bad), Hugo knows this is the time for him to make a real statement. :D

I've posted a sort of ongoing scrapbook of the album here. I haven't shared it with many, so let's keep it between us k?

Oh yeah Eric, it will be our little secret here :-) Awesome photos, thanks so much for sharing. (There were a couple of people in them I wasn't too happy to see but u might have guessed that :-). )

I really hope u guys do well w/this. Such great talent together. It has to be good. Hugo is soooo gorgeous. He always looks so good in pictures. Isn't he like 40ish? Damn. He looks so young. I'd love to see the youth of today experience his wonderful voice & drool over him. He should have "made it" years ago. Sometimes, it's just not fair!

Oh thank god! Finally a great rhythm section on a Hugo album! lol... My biggest issue with fire in the night was the weak drumming. The importance of a great drummer is too often overlooked. Drumming is the kind of thing most people pay attention to when it's bad (or great) and a bad drummer can kill a song very easily. Hugo had a really good drummer on his debut solo, played his own drums on Time on Earth (which wasn't bad by the way, but not as good the first guy) and he let his brother play on fire in the night. I really think that was a mistake, but hey, it's his brother. Tough line to walk. I can't say I'd have done differently there.

Agreed, time should be taken to do it right. Music to my ears (pun intended). Wasn't sure if the delay was from working hard or other projects getting in the way (hence my question). Thanks for the update, brother. You guys already have one sale here for sure.

Any chance you'll tour the album when it's done?? If so, please tell me you'll play in LA. :)

Hey Eric, great to see you posting again! :) It was good to come here and read about the good stuff that's going on in rock music.Enough of the bad news.
Thanks for the pictures,it's nice to take a peek behind the scenes...Love it!

I agree that Hugo needs to make that statement because he is so talented! I've seen him live last year, and besides being a humble and really great person,I was impressed with the show he has put on with Evolution. He sure did justice to all those Journey songs, how can anyone bash him for being the passionate singer he is?
I'm sure he's doing a great job on this new project. He's an inspired musician,I've heard his original material and liked it very much.

Looking forward for more good news,Eric, keep us updated.
The best of luck to all of you! :D

I finally saw Hugo with Evolution a few weeks ago and he was great. Excellent performer. The band was smokin!!! i used to have my doubts about Hugo, but no more.
