I hear yah on the timing.
Many of
the vocals sound like they were done in increments or in piecemeal.
That notwithstanding, I think he sounds good.
That's the point I was trying to make in my response to Brywool in regards
to extensive Pro-Tools use. i know tons of bands use the pitch correction and auto-tune stuff.
But how many takes do you think it took Augeri to sound that good?
I bet he spent a whole day in the studio just trying to get 1-2 takes
of the big "Haaaarms Waaaaaay" that sounded good enough to splice thru the whole track.
On FITH, you can tell that the final line in the chorus before the bridge (time = 3:04)
is 2 seperate sessions.
Session One: "Keeping the Faith..."
Session Two: "...In the heartland Tonight..."
Same goes for one of my favorite Arrival tracks,
Live and Breathe.
I used to LOVE the last run Augeri did at the 4:30 mark (one of my fave Augeri vocals)
until I heard (by listening at a low setting) 2 distinct sessions.
Session One: "We found the sun..."
Session Two: "In You I Live and Breathe..."
This was actually a really bad splice or "Punch-In"
on Shirley's part.
Perry did a lot of takes too...
But he would then scrutinize over them all, splice together
the runs he thought sounded best,
Re-LEARN the song that way
and then knock it out in one or 2 takes.
Augeri could never do that, especially on Generations.
