Glenn Hughes , this man is the best singer out there, he's singing for 30 years, I cannot match him to anyone else.

Absolutely agree

Yup...Glenn Hughes is one of a kind. Most people's vocal cords should be shredded with what he does. Only person I would come close to putting there is John Farnham, who's been going since the late 60s with little to no change. Totally different type of singer however.

a couple others...
Bob Catley (Magnum)...2006 not his best, but this year sounds just like normal
Danny Bowes (Thunder)...if anything, he has gotten better!
Danny Vaughn (Tyketto)...not nearly as much touring as some however
Terry Brock (Strangeways)....see above, same as Vaughn
James Christian (House of Lords)...another who hasn't toured all that much, but can still wail

Ah, I told my husband in 1978 that the only man I'd ever leave him for was Barry Gibb. :D I thought his AI performance was fine. I'm not sure how much he has performed since Maurice died. I know Robin has put out a solo album (I have it ) and toured in Europe.

I'm just a flat-out-no-apologies-melt-on-sight fan of Barry Gibb and I think Robin Gibb is one of THE most fantastic singers EVER. Now THERE is a guy who sounds exactly like he did 30 years ago.

Oopps, getting on a Bee Gees rant! :D :D :D

thats because he looks like Christ.. he just looks Jesus'ie(y)

"...a DJ or something to that effect"??? Absolutely hilarious, my friend.

"Uncle" Joe Benson is one of the most respected radio disc jockeys to ever walk the planet, and it's a safe bet he knows more about rock music than any twenty people here combined.

A bit of info for those unfamiliar with the man:

Uncle Joe Benson has been a familiar voice on the radio for over 38 years, 26 of those at top-rated Los Angeles rock stations including his current/longtime on-air home, 95.5 KLOS-FM. As the afternoon on-air personality, he treats his audience to a daily dose of his encyclopedic knowledge of rock and roll, an expertise which extends to his nationally syndicated show "Off The Record."

"Off the Record" reveals the person behind the "persona" via in-depth interviews with the biggest names in Classic Rock, like The Rolling Stones, The Who, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, Eric Clapton and Tom Petty.

Joe Benson has also authored the insightful and informed Uncle Joe's Record Guides series, which serve as an in-depth history of rock music, detailing the writing and recording processes of the most influential bands to make the scene. When not immersed in music and radio, you'll find Uncle Joe at the racetrack. Since 1989, Uncle Joe's Racing teams and cars have since competed in over 520 events. He became the voice of the California Speedway in 1997, where he continues to announce, call races, and conduct driver interviews.

You can visit Uncle Joe online via his own award-winning website, www.unclejoe.com, and experience more than 350 pages of music news and history, on-air activities, and personal appearances.

I'll take his statements about Perry as truth any day.

Joe Benson has been around and knows music inside and out. He also knows how to bullshit. EVERY major player that he scores an interview with knows that the interview will be free of any difficult questions and ANY new work they have out will be lauded. An electron microscope couldn't find that dude's balls.

Roxxy, it is true that UJ is in the PR business as well as the record playing biz.

I like him a lot, but ST Jon is correct, the players that come to him know it is a comfort zone to promote.....no hardball questions.

You're nuts. As a respected veteran in his chosen field, Joe Benson doesn't need to "bullshit" ANYONE to get artists on his show.

He certainly doesn't need to prove anything to anyone. Like I said, I'll take his word regarding Perry's vocal abilities over the alleged second-hand knowledge of some posters here, any day of the week.

Your basic no-brainer...

Deano- I asked UJ the question a yr or so ago after I read his statement somewhere on the internet. I wanted to know if he really heard Perry ,recently, and that he sounded like the 80's. I don't think he was PRing anything. I think he is a fan. If you want to see Uncle Joe's email let me know. His opinion is Perry sounds like the ROR days.

Donald Fagen from Steely Dan - still sounds just like he did on the classic 70s records

Robert Lamm from Chicago - Soulful but capable of belting when he really wants to still... hasn't lost anything

Burton Cummings - turning 60 this year. This I believe is from last year, but I saw him this year. Still sounds great to me.

mmmmmmmmm, not quite. I think he's about 70% of his prime. Seen them live many times, too. SD is my favorite non-MR band. His peers call him the Velvet Fog.
