OT: Sports Theme Songs

Postby donnaplease » Mon Aug 06, 2007 5:49 am

I need some help...

My son is the quarterback for his high school football team. They are looking to start a new 'era' at the school...new coach, new philosophy, hopefully a winning season for a change...

The coach has asked me to help come up with some ideas to increase team/school spirit. We wanna have some new music to bring the kids out onto the field with, and that will play during their warmups.

You guys are the ultimate in music history. Does anyone have any suggestions??? Please keep in mind that it is a small rural school in Virginia, so we may be limited in some of the language that will be accepted.

Any ideas????

I know it's been overused, but Queen's "We Are The Champions" came in my mind first. It really is a great team anthem-like song.

Not sure if you want ROCK songs, but if so,here are a few motivating ones

'Born In The USA' by Springsteen
'Jump' by Van Halen
'Beds Are Burning' by Midnight Oil
'Believe In Me' by Souls Sirkus
'Thunderstruck' by AC/DC
'Rock You Like A Hurricane' by The Scorpions

Hey Sweetums, how about one of these. If you just used the chorus, they should be fine, but some editing would have to be done on the others....

Pump It Up - Elvis Costello
You Got Another Thing Coming - Judas Priest
Flash Gordon's Theme - Queen (I know this is cheesy as hell, but it's fun..)
Big Gun - AC/DC (anything with Gun in it probably wouldn't work for school though....)
Destroyer - The Kinks
Cum on Feel the Noize - Quiet Riot

donna,
don't know what your school colors are but this song screams "we are THE badass football team". You could pipe it in on the loud speakers and the stage band could learn it for pep rallies.

LOL, hey they play it at basketball games.

Lyrically, a lot of songs wouldn't fit for school kids. I was thinking more for the chorus and beat. :)

Um....I was merely commenting that it was the first time I ever heard the song. Nowhere did I say that it should be used at games "for school kids." I gave DP my list.

Really SJ? You've never heard that song before? I am guessing you've never seen the movie "Rock Star" with Mark Walberg and Jennifer Anniston then?

Great Suggestions, guys!!! Keep 'em coming!!! 8)

I'm thinking Stand up & Shout would be great to use when the team comes out on the field... but it would need to be edited for probably just the chorus. The beginning and the part just before the guitar solo would be great!

As far as the school goes, we're a single-A division school that sits right next to a church. We have used AC/DC before and some of the more risque' rap songs for basketball. Our principal is very conservative, and won't even allow the boys to do a 'male beauty contest' for a fundraiser because he considers it 'cross-dressing' (which it is, but the idea of the macho football players in drag just cracks me up!).

If your team is that bad, NO song will make them better. Get A, a better coach, , B, better players and forget the horsehit song BS...Fuck all to Hell...what the Hell? This isn't the Replacements with Keanu Reeves coming out of retirement, saying FU to his scrubbing barnacles gig in Miami harbour...this is fucking HS football....there are enough ways to cheat and finagle your way to a playoff birth...A single song, even DSB, won't hel;p their cause.

Get better, compete, and win. I have NO problem with a team "running it up." Hey, if you can't compete, fuck you, get better or kiss my ass." THAT's MY philosophy.

Crazy Train---Ozzy
Cochise---Audioslave
Back In Black---ACDC
Run To The Hills---Iron Maiden
War Pigs---Black Sabbath

....and maybe it's just me, but I think I Am A Viking would make a great motivating song. Crazy Train came to mind because it's what my husband uses for the rec football team he coaches. War Pigs might be a bit much, or maybe not but considering what kids listen to today.
