What would it take...?

Postby *Laura » Mon Aug 06, 2007 12:53 am

Strange thing happened to me yesterday.I took a short nap and had a confusing dream...It was Neal and SP sitting at a table in a restaurant.
They were looking at eachother but not talking.
I "went" closer and I saw that Neal was holding a coin.As I was watching them,Neal gave the coin to Steve. He took it,got up and went to this jukebox in the corner of the room, put it in and as I stood "there",I suddenly heard a song.I just knew it was a Journey song, but it was NEW.
A mid tempo rocker, beautiful guitar riffs, can't compare it with any of the known songs.( I couldn't even hum it after waking up. ) No vocal line on it.
In my dream,Steve turned around looked at Neal and they both started laughing.
That was all.

After I woke up I had this clear feeling that this dream was familiar.Very familiar.
Was it because of that jukebox in the Sopranos scene?Did I read about this somewhere?
Oh well,I was too busy to think about it,so I let it go.

This morning,I was searching for a book and I saw the "Open Arms Steve Perry Anthology" on the shelf... :o THAT's where I saw the story!!
I grabbed the book and was right...it's there,in that interview.Must've been stuck in the back of my mind and generated the dream.

John Stix:"What's the history of "Wheel in the Sky"?
Steve Perry: "I was with Neal in a pizza parlor on a tour night off. Nobody knew who we were yet. Neal and I were having a pizza. I walk over to the jukebox in the corner and I see "Wheel in the Sky" by Journey on the jukebox. I pulled some quarters out of my pocket and I played the song. I sat down and didn’t say anything. I was waiting and waiting and looking at him. The song starts and he doesn’t get it at first. All of a sudden he looks at me and turns around and says, "I love this song." And we laughed. That was the first time we had a sense that we had the chance to be big, because we were finally on the jukebox."

I felt sad after re-reading it.These 2 guys were getting along so well.
Then in my mind...I re-wrote the story.Fast forward

Steve Perry:"I was with Neal in a pizza parlor on that year when Journey took the year off...2007 I think.Everyone knew who we were.Neal and I were having a pizza, talking about the good ole times we had together. In walks this girl with an iPod,she was enjoying whatever she was listening to,you could see that on her face. She sees us and she stops in her tracks.Obviously, she recognized us.She comes over with this big grin on her face and says it's amazing - she was listening to "Wheel In The Sky"! She shows us,then she tells us that she and all her friends have tons of Journey songs on their iPods! We talk for a while, then we sign something for her and she leaves.
All of a sudden Neal and I look at eachoter and we laugh. That was the time when we had a sense that we had the chance to be big again, because we were finally on the iPods."

All kidding aside, please tell me...WHAT would it take for these 2 guys to sit down and feel good again together??

I know exactly what that dream relates to, I'll PM you

As for the two musicians, perhaps it already happened and if Perry hadn't had the kitchen arrange the word 'Fuckup' using mushrooms on the pizza, they might well be back on the road together

I had so many sarcastic responses to this it was scary. But then I just felt sad - there are so many unknowns here, what was done, what was said - I am not sure it could ever happen again.

THE one missing component: respect. I don't think these guys respect each other any more - they said they did during the TBF interviews but there has been too much water under the bridge.

The ironic thing is that these days you don't even have to tour or need a label to get your music out there. If Steve really wanted to make music he could. He doesn't. End of story.

(PS - how come I never have any dreams with Steve in them? ) :D

As I was reading your dream part I was thinking, "this did happen"...that must've been wild for SP to hear himself coming out of a jukebox for the first time! I like how he uses the term, "pizza parlor" - that's what we called it then, too...and, it had a jukebox. :)
But, honestly, I don't think there is anything that would get them together in the same room again...but, once SP wrote a song to them with the words, "I'd like to say I'm sorry"....now, why don't Neal & Jon????

Come the fuck on Laura? A Dream of Stephen and Neal Joseph in a pizza parlour? You have got to be fucking kidding me? Is there nothing you Loons won't say or type to hope that this Band will reunite?

Those two guys won't meet anywhere, anytime. Get over it. Fuckin whacko.

I would be utterly embarrassed to type the shit you just types out Laura. My fucking God, what will you think up next?

Let's kidnap 'em, lock 'em both in a padded, soundproof room, give them a few beers and some pizza, and tell them they can't come back out until they write at least one song.

Of course, the possibility of them getting together on their own is about the same as Sultan Mehmed waking from the dead and re-establishing the Ottoman Empire, but instead of stopping at Constantinople, expanding the empire through all of Asia and North America.

How about a juicy hot dog dipped in Habanero sauce shoved up your ass while Stephen and Neal Joseph laugh in tears watching you running around like a headless chicken?

I'd love them to reunite only for that.

I don't think there is anything to figure out. Here's my take on what happened. Journey planned on canning Augeri and finding a new singer. The Def Leppard co-headlining tour comes up and it's just too much money to turn down. They figure if they were ok with partially taped shows that they can do the same for virtually the entire show.
While in Europe though, that dude Svant or whatever the fuck his name is discovers that they are playing buullshit shows. Dean gets a hold of the fact that we're being fucked and exposes the band. The damage starts becoming too great and they need someone....FAST. They contact Jeff and he comes in and saves their asses. All the while though, they plan on ONLY using him til the end of the tour and in Europe. However, to put an official end to the Augeri era, and more importantly to sweep the tapegate chatter under the rug, they make Jeff the "official" lead singer. The European tour ends, they cash their checks and they fire Jeff. Red13, I don't think there EVER was any intention of Jeff being the longterm lead singer, so I don't think there's any thing to sit down and "figure out." Jeff was used, dude. Get your head out of your ass. Isn't it hard to breathe that way?

What would it take?

Someone once said, "it would take an act of God to get Perry back with Journey."

Then God interrupted and said "Excuse me, don't you think if *I* knew how, I would have fucking done it by now?"

And then he smote them.

True story. Swearsies.

Very entertaining! I snipped the iPod take because I thought the jukebox thing was precisely the thing artists used to strive for back in the day. Get on the radio and jukeboxes.

Very fun reading!

2 things make the theory implausible:
1) the band's raving about him ie: why not not comment at all or be lukewarm (cain was at first but came around to prasing JSS) or not comment at all? They seemed pumped beyond belief.
2) why not be upfront and tell him, dude it's an audition. Not permanent yet? No, they MADE him their official vocalist after the DL tour.

Something seems to have gone wrong.

Having said the above, I DON'T dismiss the SinJin Theory out of hand.

That would be really disgusting,if it's the truth. If this band is capable of not being honest with their own singer, what should the fans expect?

Way to blow a good chance to regain some respect.

Well, from what I gathered from Neal in the middle of the tour back in the Northeast, he was jacked, saying to me, "We are going to make the greatest comebeack in music history." Hmmm, However, another certain sonofabitch was not so pumped up.

It's true. Jeff saved their sorry asses by not only bailing them out, but also blowing Lippard out of the fuckin arena. It wasn't even close.....and they keep him on, to pocket some Euros for a few weeks and then, see ya..

Yeah, It's true alright. And it's discgusting...that's why I can't ever support some people here that wish to continue supporting these grade A assholes.

I'm curious...Who is leading Journey?I thought it was Neal.
If Cain wasn't so pleased with the idea of writing music with Jeff...Was that the decisive reason of canning a good singer/songwriter?
From what I hear,Jeff is capabale of writing some really good stuff. He would've captured that sound they were/are looking for...

Anyway, for a long time,I had the impression that Neal had the last word on what comes and goes in the band.
