Well, it's now 1:15PM in the afternoon....I just woke up about 30 mins. ago.....with a sore throat / no speaking voice & ringing in my ears....
...because I saw The Police last night at MSG.
Best concert I saw this year.
And oh yeah - it was SOLD OUT.
I can now understand the rantings Stewart C. had it the beginning - they took all of their Classic Songs, and "retooled" them, to have a kinda "u Turn" effect - you think you know the next part of the song, but no....there's an extra bridge, instrumental, Vocal improv from Sting, or a call-and-response "ee YO!!" patented thing that only Sting can do.
So, if you're playing every song that you've know a certain way for over 20 years, and NOW you have to play them differently, yeah - things are gonna eff up.
But not last night - GOOD LORD they were fantastic!!!
I thought of MelRock, and all of the um...*ahem*....DISCUSSIONS
that have been debated here, especially about how Classic Rock Singers tune their songs down....in all honesty, that happened in only a handful of songs....in the others, Sting took different "Vocal Routes" in his delivery: if he sang high in the original, he sang lower, or chose a completely different vocal line altogether that allowed him to use a lower tone.
But besides that, STING CAN STILL BRING IT!!! AND HE LOOKED DAMN EFFING GOOD DOING IT, TOO!!!
DAMN that Yoga stuff works MAGIC!! LOL
To sum up....
....this show was absolutely amazing....their new arrangements were out of this world....delivery, showmanship, and musicianship were all top notch.....
....and you know what?
I REALLY DON'T CARE that things were tuned down....these men are the originators of these Classic songs.....they STILL bring the magic that ONLY THEY could bring to performing these songs....and in the end, it's all that matters......and that's what makes them Legendary.
