Journey Arrival

I know Steve Augeri is not the most popular person on this forum but did anyone care for this CD? It took me a few listens but I have kind of gotten fond of it. Now, I know it doesnt compare to any past Journey CD's but its not a bad disc. For some reason Higher Place never gets old to me, I really like that catchy tune. And while on the topic has Jeremey ever included any Augeri in his show? I know he didnt in Atl last saturday but just wondering. I would like to hear him throw Higher Place, All the Way, or Faith in the Heartland out sometime. I will say that I was disappointed in Generations and still cant understand why they had to let everyone sing lead. Valory and Schon definetly need to stick to background. It had its good moments but its not one I can let play straight thru when I'm traveling or something.

It was ballad heavy. The song "With Your Love" though is a perfect wedding song. When my daughter gets married I really hope she'll squeeze that one into the ceremony somewhere.

"Arrival" would've been a great album if they had dropped three or four songs, preferably "All the Things", "All the Way" and a couple of other tunes.

The only way it would've been the perfect album is if they replaced 90% of the song with better songs.

The song writing is defintiely lacking. Lacking in melodies. Just nothing catchy about it. I have never listened to a worse Joruney album with the possible exception of Generations and I really think generations is even a tiny bit better. it has nothing to do with Augeri's vocals. His vocals are fine it is the songs.

Huge fan of Arrival.

Quantam leap up over the prior album. The "tension" was back felt more like Journey again.

I think Arrival is a good album, I downloaded all the songs on my Ipod with the exception of "All the Way" (really a terrible song) I don't mind "All the Things".

SA sounds good in the studio, never liked him live. Don't believe that Journey will ever find anyone that can perform live like JSS (not even SP).

The charts are so fragmented now. The AC chart is hardly a comparison to the Top 40 back in the 80s.

I think AC is pretty prestigious (there are a LOT of those stations), but will agree w/ party crapper Dave Cp that the other mickey mouse charts they have now are totally superfuous.

Think of 2001 when Aerosmith had Just Push Play out and Jaded was on the radio all the time.

Higher Place made Jaded look like Wham's Careless Whisper and I heard it on the radio like twice.

Mick was right when he told Rock that the reason Dempsey got the pub when he knocked Firpo out of the ring the same night Mick knocked sugar johnson out of the ring was because Dempsey had a manager.

The thread starter is asking for opinions, so I'm gonna deviate from the consensus so far.

I didn't like Arrival. Mostly I don't like Augeri in Journey. There was no chemistry there. The music on this album sounded much more like Bad English than Journey. Worse, it sounded like Bad English attempting to mimic Journey as so many of the songs felt like rips on or attempts to remind us of Journey's escape era stuff. I can hear fragments of famous neal schon solos in several songs.

Doesn't help that Augeri can't carry a ballad. He's emotionless and soulless in his delivery. He sounds better with Tall Stories. He's more of a rocker at heart and has a weak ear for melody.

Sounds harsh, but it's my opinion.

Even tho anyone can scour the archives and pull up lots of positive reviews. Funny how that album suddenly sucked to so many once TG broke. :roll:

The vocal delivery in that song sounds nothing like what Perry would do. Great vocal by Augeri.

Unfortunately I enjoyed the shows where Augeri fronted the band. Sounds like I should be ashamed of myself but he filled in nicely and kept Journey in the public eye. Sure, not quite the way Mr.Perry did, but still had the TV exposure, a little radio play, and still played to good crowds on the road. I guess I'm not cool, I just enjoy the music. I accepted a long time ago that Perry is not returning to this band so I had to change with the times. I really wish they would've released the Anniversary concert DVD from 2005 as they once planned while Augeri was still around. You guys may not admit it but you know most of you would buy it. You would buy it today if it released today. And thats OK, its not Augeri's fault that his voice couldnt hold up to a rugged tour schedule.

Not a huge fan of KMS but it's very different.

And it's Augeri and Neal singing together during the verse (Neal's the low voice).

And Gatorfan, I agree w/ your assessment. And Neal did say recently that the Generations dvd was still going to see the light of day, though most saw that as just paying lip service to the issue. I'd definately buy it on release day, no shame no qualms.

I was always outspoken against Augeri and Arrival from the get go. Never was a cheerleader over on BT. I had postings removed by the thought police over there, so I stopped posting (a looong time ago).

Bingo! Arrival is leaps and bounds over Trial By Fire.
All the Things is a great song. What's not to like? Nice of Cain to use an organ in a song at least once.
