I'm not sure overrated is the right term here. They were extremely popular, as a novelty act that went on much longer than usual for that kind of act, but surely nobody actually 'rated' them as a band anyway, and certainly wouldn't have over-rated them. Everybody knew there was no quality to their music - they just appealed to the teenyboppers who bought their singles by the shedload. Having said that, I thought some of Mel C's solo work wasn't too bad. I thought she sounded better than Bryan Adams in that single they did together, and she was the only Spice with a true singing voice.

However, nobody in their right mind would rank them as a great band.

Now I have to admit on her own Mel C has recorded some very good material . I suppose we all do sick things ( like liking the spice girls) when were young and impressionable don't we? :-) And as for rating them, maybe that was the wrong term to use....maybe just too much exposure for my liking is more like it! LOL :-)

Perfect example of my MOST OVERATED BAND (POISON)

This year, Poison put out an album full of classic cover songs.......Totally SUCKED, but got airplay on Radio and MTV/ VH1
At the same time, TESLA put out an album of classic rock cover songs and got no air play at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tesla's album is far better than Poison's lame attempt to make a few extra bucks!!!!!

By the way... Tesla is my MOST UNDERATED BAND OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Springsteen, Mellencamp and Seger are a few people that I really don't care for.

The Beatles, hands down. Sure they were good, but you can get easily disappointed when you hear them.
