Nor should you EVER see them in a list of top 20 bands.
As much as I hate to, I have to agree with you on this. The dismissal of Richrath from this band crippled this band. Even the best post-Richrath era song "Love Is A Rock" pales in comparison to the Richrath years.

You Can Still Rock in America
That's hardly all of them. The dude is a FANTASTIC musician (he plays 5-, 6-, and fretless bass, guitar, drums, and keys), songwriter, and performer...and he's a helluva guy, too. Possibly the most underrated musician of the MR genre.
It's too bad Neal gave up on new musical frontiers (i.e. JSS), because they were throwing around the idea of Neal, Sammy Hagar, Jack, and Jim Peterik forming a supergroup at one point...can you imagine?
Anyway, I don't think you're going to win the "Night Ranger" sucks argument on this board, dude. If you did, it would be your most impressive victory, ever.
Aaron wrote:Journey is in damn good company and it looks like the list is pretty close ... with one exception. Pearl Jam are a bunch of fucking plonkers that will not be played in 10 years, let alone 20. Every band in the top five have earned their right and are played on radio several times a day. Pearl Jam are not even in the same league as the rest. Let the west cost, grunge, druggie fuckers wear their flannels and play the one finger boogie in drop D devil tune. Fuck you Pearl Jam, the best part of you ran down your mom's chin.
The rest of the top 5, you guys rock. Now we can argue over the order of the top 4.
Jeremey wrote:Greatest American ROCK bands in my opinion...Not by personal preference, but by the typical factors (influence, impact, artistic vision, longevity, etc etc etc)
1 Kiss
2 Aerosmith
3 Metallica
4 Nirvana
5 Van Halen
6 The Eagles
7 Lynyrd Skynyrd
8 Guns N Roses
9 The Ramones
10 Journey
11 The Grateful Dead
12 REM
13 The Allman Bros
14 Bon Jovi
15 Sublime
16 Dave Matthews Band
17 Heart
18 Red Hot Chili Peppers
19 The Misfits
20 The Doors
Didn't include people like Springsteen or Mellencamp, as they weren't really about "bands," per se, nor did I include some obvious omissions like The Beach Boys or The Temptations, cause I don't really consider them "Rock" in the sense of what really developed out of the late 1960's into the heyday of rock and roll from the mid-70's to mid-80's.
Saint John wrote:Greg wrote:Journey
Boston
Kansas
38 Special
KISS
Survivor
Metallica
Aerosmith
Lynyrd Skynyrd
REM
Bon Jovi
Chicago
Foreigner
The Eagles
Van Halen
Beach Boys
Steve Miller Band
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
Creedence Clearwater Revival
And the last isn't a band, but daggonit, if we're talking about American music, you have to include Billy Joel in there somewhere.
This is the most plausible list thus far. Great choices.

No, no South Bend, for the billionth time...
Valentine is nowhere NEAR top 20, 25 or 50. Pull yer head out yer ass. Dude, seriously, check yourself. I should have said, if you typed Valentine was a top 20 US band, you are a retard, but I don't think you are retarded..my bad.
