Arrival is a pretty good CD, whether you wanna give it Journey acclaim or not, its got some catchy tunes on it. Why does some on here seem like they hate Steve Augeri so much? I cant understand it. He only did what any other vocalist wouldve done if presented with a great opportunity but Ive noticed some on here treat him like hes the antichrist?

Exactly. Can't understand why he was treated with such disdain. Great Album. Higher Place an absolute gem.

Marc, I agree with you. Higher Place is a wondeful song and it is one that could have been a Perry classic.

WTF? It sounds nowhere near Bad English!

And definitly Higher place is kewl. I like the live versions better than the cd version though.

WE actually used several songs from this album during our wedding. We used with your love during the ceremony as the song before the vows, Lifetime of dreams is our song and we used kiss me softly in our songs we had played during the wedding

Mine in bold.
Saint John wrote:Higher Place = D B

Signs of Life = C F How on earth can this be any higher than "F" considering the ridiculous rip of the WCN guitar riff?!
All the Things = D F
Loved By You = D F
Livin' to Do = C A The most original, creative song.
World Gone Wild = B F
I Got a Reason = C F
With Your Love = D F
Lifetime of Dreams = D F
Live and Breathe = C F
Nothin' Comes Close = D F
To Be Alive Again = C F
Kiss Me Softly = C A Most brilliant SA studio vocal performance. Period.
We Will Meet Again = F B
I'm Not That Way = F F

This album absolutely sounds like Bad English and SA even sounds like Jon Waite on a couple of the tracks! It's basically Bad English with RV and SA sitting in.

It sounds like Bad English only in the sense that it's perfectly competant but slightly soulless and generic AOR music. Oh...and Neal's guitar playing too - which is the only truly exceptional aspect of this record.

Hang on...haven't we all had this conversation a thousand times before?

That's probably the strongest echo of BE. There's lots more other subtle referrences. What's the BE song off Backlash that Neal said was a complete Don Henley ripoff?

What's with these guys? Can't they come up with ANYTHING original...? I'll tell you - that rip off of the WCN guitar solo just IRKS me to no end. Such CRAP. Neal laughed about it in an interview. Something like: well, if you're going to steal from someone why not make it yourself?

I just can NOT listen to Arrival with a respectful ear.

I'll agree that it's competent only because there's not much originality to it! Easy to play the same ol' same ol'!

"Generic" is the word. The only soul is heard on Livin' To Do.

If JOURNEY is going to say that they're going to take me to a higher place and/or all the way then they better deliver!

I hold JOURNEY to higher standards than "just about every band out there". The fact that you and so many other fans are so apathetic about JOURNEY's art is why they bail in the studio and produce crap and retread themselves and other old material only to follow that up by another GH tour.

People went NUTS about the lip synching - that it was inexcusable and resulted in the band losing all credibility. I'm simply saying the exact same thing in regards to their studio work. Nobody's ever gotten over the lip synching and I'm not going to get over what I find is equally crap in their studio work.

What utter bollocks - Arrival and particularly Augeri sounds nothing like Waite/Bad English. Van Gogh's ear for music?

Arrival is too slick/sweet/pop etc. Too clean. Bad English records are more raw and has a more rock sound to it and John Waite's voice is brighter than Steve Augeri's.

Listening to Bad English and Arrival at the moment and I still haven't found any similarity to Arrival...

???

I'm not the only one that hears BE. I'm not going to go into this note for note but I hear it and so do others. I'm not going to get into a polarized argument that claims ABSOLUTELY that it's one way or the other. That's ridiculous.

I'm simply saying that Arrival smacks of BE. If you don't hear it then that's fine, too. I'm not on a crusade to convince otherwise.

Right!

Arrival is a clean version of BE and BE is a raw version of Arrival!!!

They're entirely interchangeable works.

Well if you put it that way everything is interchangeable right? ;)
It's true that some Arrival songs could well have been performed by Bad English, but the result would have been totally different from the original 'Arrival sound'. Put John in front and get Neal and Jon all spiced up and you'd have a more reckless and different sound... too different to call them identical IMO.

It wasn't on me, I agree with the guy. Other than a little bit of it on NCC I don't hear any BE on Arrival.

And my sense of humor is without peer.
