Too bad this album came out in '91 which was during the downfall of real rock 'n' roll. Otherwise, it probably would've done at least as well as Gramm's "Long Hard Look", which generated a couple of top 40 hits.

Anyway, this is one of my favorite ballads.

Here's a cool interview with Marty Friedman talking about his band mate and co-lead guitarist Jason Becker, who is now paralyzed by Lou Gehrig's Disease. Considering how amazing Friedman is as a guitarist, it's scary to think how good Becker was and might've gotten if he hadn't been stricken with that terrible disease... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72kvNgdUBi4

Boyz Are Gonna Rock - Vinnie Vincent Invasion

Unfortunately there isn't a video for the utterly briiliant Shoot You Full Of Love - which was the stand-out track on the album featuring a great over-the-top performance by Robert Fleischman too - but this is the next best thing. Mark Slaughter is miming to Fleischman's vocals here.....

Just about every song on that album is killer. That and "Under Lock and Key" are neck and neck for my favorite Dokken albums. Don Dokken's solo album is also very good and actually sounds more like a Dokken album than either "Dysfunctional" or "Shadowlife", the latter of which is just utterly horrible.

This is a great video from previous to "Machine Head" being released. Gillan had an awesome set of pipes back then. The dude could scream with the best.

Fool's Game - Michael Bolton

This guy's music is usually from hell as we all know - but someone here was recently raving about his first album - which Bolton seems to pretending doesn't exist for fear of alienating or confusing his fanbase - and I have to say it's a really strong early 80s AOR record. Very underrated, I reckon - and with some excellent tracks worth checking out such as "She Did The Same Thing" and especially "Fighting For My Life". Anyway - this was the single off it and one of the lighter, poppier numbers on the album:

His voice is much better suited to AOR than adult contemporary, in my never-so-humble opinion.

I think Black Sabbath's "Born Again" album from 1983 was the last over-the-top screaming performance by Gillan. He started to calm down after that. Might be wrong about that though....

Crap production on this record but all part of its charm somehow. Apparently Gillan threw the tape of it out of the car window when he heard the final mix of this....

Hi!

I saw Deep Purple August 12th in concert - Ian Gillan was outstanding (as were the rest)! He hasn't lost it at all - what a killer show!! Just had to throw that in. They did "Hush" as their encore - outstanding! Carry on... :D

Oh... Listening to a cover of .38 Special "Hold on Loosely" on Guitar Hero II playing in the other room :)

This one's better:

By the way....do you have "Perfect Stranger" which is the first Robert Fleischman solo album? It's from 1979 and features Neal Schon. I'm listening to four tracks off it here....

Hold Out Your Hand - Chris Squire

Very rare live performance of the best track from Squire's 1975 solo album. Rough sound - and occasionally off-key as well - but always good to see the old dog in action. This is from a Rickenbacker 75th Anniversary celebration...
