Sounds good for an demo that isn't fully finished. 8)

That is a demo?

Just damn.

Jeff even sings demos with his heart.

The song would be a lot better if the vocals were replaced with more generic references instead of the specific ones made about Jamestown.

I like the song too - but it does start to meander after a while like so many post-ROR Journey tracks do - and the performances here - from both JSS and the band - are pretty underwhelming. It all sounds a bit strained and contrived to me - and this demo would support the argument of those who felt JSS and Journey weren't meant for each other.

Shame Journey couldn't - or chose not to - capture the spirit of the live shows with JSS, though....

I can't really add anything to what's been said already. Lyrics are dripping with cheddar and the melody is dull. Journey songs should soar. This just flaps around a bit.

And as for the song the beginning is very nice so is the ending. After about 35 - 47 sec. it's heading the wrong way IMO.
It had potential... Kinda reminded me of 'Still They Ride'.

Neal's solos aren't like they used to be in the Perry-era Journey. I feel it has changed from the moment he started his Soul SirkUS project. I like the guitar tune in this song but somewhere it doesn't feel right. Could have been a mellow Soul SirkUS song. I would have been more comfortable with that than calling this song a Journey song.

Musically it's still great but it's indeed flapping around in de middle which doesn't do any good to the song and to Journey. Where are these 'tight' songs they used to make? Is this the Perry-factor they're missing?

Because the lyrics sound like they were written by a 4th grade social studies class?

Many people here have different ears than I have I guess, I like the song, it has Journey written all over it, good example of keeping the legacy alive with a new singer, too bad the band thought otherwise.

I think we Brits have a problem with the kind of triumphant earnestness about the subject which Americans are uniquely fond of and good at....but we don't have a problem with 'freedom' itself.

That's unfortunate. The only thing I have a problem with are those who wave their flags on days like Independence Day, Veteran's Day, etc., and then couldn't give a crap the rest of the year as long as they get their cable television and beer. Or the people who consistently vote for politicians who promise them more government services. GET UP OFF YOUR LAZY ASS AND WORK FOR IT, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!

Also - I'd take this statement a bit more seriously if we didn't spend most of our working days exchanging You Tube videos of 80s rock bands, Dave.

Well, I put in a full day's work every day. All my stuff gets done.

Although....I do sit down most of the day while I'm working, so I guess I'm not really getting up off my lazy ass too much, huh?

Actually, here in California, we study US history in the fifth grade. Something tells me that if JSS had shown up in my fifth grade class and sang this song, I'd have had better grades on the tests! :D :D

Unfortunately for me I feel this song was rushed and uninspired when it should have been a masterpiece to show off the vocal range and power of Journey's new frontman to the world. Instead it was written as Jeff's swan song and the so-so lyrics left him completely unable to show off his vocal talents. And I say that based on the fact that his being unceremoniously shit canned had apparently been decided weeks before this show and the songs debut.

What, like health care? I am off my lazy ass and working said ass off, and I still can't afford any kind of health insurance in this country. I don't see anything wrong about the government taking over health care like in Europe...they can't fuck me over any worse than the current system is.

In America, working your ass off only earns you the right (sometimes) to continue working your ass off; it does not necessarily earn you health care, a fair amount of vacation/personal/non-work/family time, or a wage that is reflective of the current cost of living in whatever area you are working in.

If the huge corporations were forced to give people these things, they'd make a few billion dollars less than they're currently making, and executives might have to fly first class instead of on a private jet, and god knows we can't have that.

You don't have money for health care? Yet you're typing on a computer and paying for internet service? You want to pay for your toys first and get into my pockets to pay for your health care. Um, no thanks! :D

So you'd force FORCE corporations into deals like GM got into voluntarily. Look what it did to GM. If you Force corporations to pay this, you're going to have to FORCE them to stay in the country! I don't want to live in a communist country. I'd rather pay for my own health care and keep the freedom.
