OT - Reason 3,156,213,643 why Nirvana sucks

Listened to all the covers that Arnel and "The Zoo" do, and for most of the songs the band hardly makes themrecognizable, but the Nirvana tune sounds EXACTLY like Nirvana.

Hysterical

While I DO agree with your post, the thread title is CLEARLY not enough reasons why Nirvana sucks. There are many more!

Nirvana was the reason ROCK started to slide down hill... they (other bands after Nirvana) all thought screaming into the mic was better than music...

Agreed. I love how grunge/alternative bands got this aura that they are anti-establishment, anti-corporate rock, etc., when they were really just as much, if not more, establishment and corporate as the bands that came before them.

Another fucking reason that dude should NEVER be considered. Anyone that would sing that crap, let alone sing it well, is a dick, bottom line.

To argue whether or not he's a good fit for Journey is legitimate but to say he's a "dick" because he sings a Nirvana song in a cover band is ridiculous.

Agreed. The guy's only trying to make a buck by giving the people what they want. Journey hates playing the dirty dozen but they do it for the same reason. :D

The best thing that fuck Kurt could have done is blown his head off a few years earlier so we, as a society, would not have to listen to that shit. FUCK!

Wow, you guys are brutal.

Kurt was a brilliant songwriter. He didn't "kill" 80's rock...80's rock killed itself by ditching the legitimate, talented acts and replacing them on TV with second rate stuff like Poison, Warrant, Trixter, etc...any number of second and third wave pop-metal bands that all kind of sounded the same. For every Bon Jovi or Def Leppard, there were dozens of bands without the same level of talent or songwriting who still managed to get on MTV and the radio. By the time Nirvana came out, it was time for something different. It became hype and then, like the Leps or Jovi, spawned a ridiculous number of mostly forgettable soundalike bands (Bush, anyone?), but none of that was Nirvana's fault.

Seriously guys...there can be great songs without a male soprano vocal and a guitar solo that includes finger tapping. I admit it took me awhile to realize the gift Cobain had for melody, I really didn't get it till I heard their Unplugged record, but it's a really haunting, beautiful show that might change some minds if they can accept songs that aren't trying to be "Bohemian Rhapsody."

You have a point about the shitty bands hurting melodicrock, but most of us are here because we like a male soprano vocal and a guitar solo - THATS THE POINT OF THIS WEBSITE. We have to hear all the time how silly our 80's music was all the time, but on here we can enjoy it and discuss. Nirvana was marblemouth garbage and that coward killed himself. The end.

Yeah, my kneejerk reaction to hearing about that piece of shit blowing his brains out was pure joy"

Then it sank in a few minutes later that this fucking shit-stain on society would end up being a martyr and prolong this grunge, sucki-guitarist movement for at least a decade.

I was right, even these days....good guitar playing in pop music is STILL shunned upon.

I find this thread VERY funny 'cause I felt the same way as most of you do. Now...I WILL say that in retrospect..Nirvana didn't "Kill the 80's" but they sure as hell didn't help with crap lyrics and even WORSE musicianship (if you can call it that). The only thing I can give Cobain on guitar playing is that he was great with counter-rhythms. THAT'S IT.

I guess the reason I find this thread so funny is because I was in 9th grade when the dipshit killed himself. Everyone at school was crying and saying to me "dude, you need to wear black tomorrow to mourn." Fuck no...I went to school the next day wearing a yellow polo button down and people looked at me like I was sacreligious. ESPECIALLY when I said "Fuck him. He's fertilizer now".

Anyway...to sum this up...Nirvana blows, Cobain was a selfish piece of shit killing himself and leaving his year old daughter behind 'cause "I can't handle being famous". Blow it out your ass and retire you fuckwad.
Oh...and I don't like Nirvana.

Well, I'll submit that grunge/nirvana didn't kill the 80s....The 80s did that to themselves. There are some very ridiculous examples of late 80s early 90s hair rock that made the scene very easy to ridicule. The hair got out of control, the spandex, the commercialization of it, etc These artists allowed their craft to get subverted a bit...and it made it an easy target for heroin addict, showerless fuckwads out of Seattle to target.

However, what I DO blame Nirvana/grunge for is killing guitar playing. One of the side-products of 80s hair rock, was great, innovative guitar playing. Players like Vito Bratta came up through that era. Some of his solos are songs in themselves. That mindset of making a solo just as important as the song itself, instead of an afterthought or worse, a forgotten passage, is what the 80s gave birth to. It was, in my opinion, one of the main positive contributions to rock music that hair rock gave....and in one fell swoop, that seatle cuntwad Cobain, destroyed it all. That I will always resent him for...may he burn in hell for 10,000 more years!

LOL. I was working part time at Staples, while going to college when he swallowed his buckshot...and I gotta tell ya...there was this ugly flannel wearing skankho that worked in the copy center....she LOVED nirvana...wouldn't go one day without talking about how lovely shotgun kurt was...and that she was so jealous of courtney...

The day after he died, I had 100 "happy Day" balloons delivered to the copy center......to celebrate "The death of the worlds worst tyrant second only to Hitler"...(that's what I had the card say, no shit!!!) She walked in wearing black (refusing to wear her red staples shirt)....took a look at the balloons, read the card.....screamed out in despair....and walked out of the store.

She didn't return for a whole fucking week. When she got back, she got fired!

The only "grunge" band I liked was Soundgarden. Thankfully, at least Kim Thayil could play a little and Chris Cornell was a great singer. There are a few songs here and there that I enjoy a little by other bands but 99.99% of it is total crap as far as I'm concerned.

i noticed something else around this time too.around '92 and '93 a lot of females i know starting listening to rap and a lot of the dudes started doing that wigger fad.sorry not being racial but i'm sure others noticed it too.plus a lot of older rock fans went to country around this time when garth-mania hit.

hell even i lost my mind and 'went country' for a heartbeat around this time.i quickly regained my mind thank goodness.
